    375 Ruger

If you're handloading, I don't think it matters at all. Brass for the H&H is definitely more available, but otherwise, its a wash. I had an H&H traded for a Ruger. After I got back from my first elk hunt, I decided my elk rifle should be stainless steel and Laminate or composite, so Ruger it was...

3.5 12ga vs big bore rifle

I have no doubt it is more than a .375! I said its about the equivalent of a .416. When I say "modestly loaded" I mean "Not a .416 Weatherby". I have never had a 3.5" 12 gauge give me a recoil headache if I shoot it while standing. My .458 Win mag... after 3-4 shots (500 grains 2,125fps), I will...

    Ol' Reliable - Marlin 1895 45-70

The gun forums on the internet say the .45-70 is the same ballistically as the .450 Rigby :A Stirring: Just kidding. I do like the Marlin 1895s as a lightweight carry gun! My brother-in-law has the 20" version of it and it is a sweet, soft-shooting rifle with 450 Hard cast WFN at around...

3.5 12ga vs big bore rifle

I would say a 3.5" 12 gauge from a 6.5lb shotgun is probably the equivalent of a modest load from a .416 class rifle... definitely less than a .458 IMO

458 Lott instead of 416 Rigby?

If you email Alliant, they will give you load data. RL 17 is THE powder for 375 H&H and 375 Ruger. Here is the email I got from them about the H&H that I swapped for a 375 Ruger a few hears ago.

458 Lott instead of 416 Rigby?

I once clocked a woodchuck with a 300 grain woodleigh out of an H&H at about 225 yards. The bullet actually hit about 3 ft. In front of him then skipped up and went through him sideways. The impact with the loose fill around his hole was like a mortarshell, and the effect on the woodchuck was...

I have a hunting rifle i would like to sell

Nevermind. Savage Axis in a boyds laminate stock. Magazine and bolt release seem to be identical to the Axis. If it is, unfortunately, it's not going to be terribly valuable, but a good starter rifle for someone!

I have a hunting rifle i would like to sell

Scope looks like a Burris (Fullfield maybe?). The Rifle may be a Browning ABolt? It appears to have that A-bolt "squashed" bolt handle. Potentially in a different laminate stock... (Boyd's?)

.458 win mag for North America

Haha the scope cost less than a box of ammunition!

458 Lott instead of 416 Rigby?

I don't know about 500 grain loads, but here is Hornady's load data for a Hornady 480 grain DGS in that velocity range. The original loading for the 450NE was a 480 at 2,150, and that's the load that made it a standby. These should do fine and not be compressed at 2,100FPS and handle heat just...

    Into to large caliber rifles

For Africa, absolutely. Most American hunters who never look into African hunting have never seen, let alone fired anything bigger than .338 Win Mag. To them a .375 H&H is a fire breathing monster. Anything bigger than that is in the realm of myth

    Into to large caliber rifles

I would always argue that a custom rifle is bound to have more issue (percentage wise) than a production gun. Winchester, ruger, Kimber, etc. All have mechanical engineers, materials engineers, QA and research and devlopment teams. Custom gunmakers (as good as they are) are ALWAYS producing...

    Gunwerks Skuhl 375 Ruger

I was just picking on the distressed look. I did look at some of Snowy Mountains' other stuff, and they did have some "carryable" stock options. The reason I think a lot of us prefer the original bolt action sporting rifle design is because thats how they developed and in our mind... its what...
