Does the background affect you ?

Yes, the ShotKam at the end of my 32" Beretta DT11 adds noticeable weight. I usually shoot 50 to 60 rounds then take it off. You can definitely feel the extra weight on the barrel.

Does the background affect you ?

I guess I have the opposite problem. I struggle with targets in the trees, but do fine in open field. I use a ShotKam to help with correcting my sight picture. They are a very good tool and show you exactly what you are doing wrong.

Red Dot /RSM for Dangerous Game

I put a Trijicon RMR 3.5MOA on my double and a Leupold 1-6X24 Firedot on my Model 70 375H&H and my 416 Rigby. If you turn the scope down to 1X, it functions like a RMR red dot sight.

Current Production Winchester Mod 70 Safari Express

I own both a pre-64 and 3 modern Model 70's. Fit and finish on the new ones is superior to the pre-64 and all four function flawlessly. The pre-64 is a 30.06, the new ones: 270 Win, 300WinMag and 375H&H Safari Express. If you can find one, buy it.

Trijicon credo or Leupold vx6 lpvo?

for a DG scope, I prefer Leupold--I have a 1-6X24 firedot on my 416 Rigby. for a red dot sight, Trijicon RMR--I put one on my 375 H&H double and love it--it's so good I put one on my 9mm Beretta 92X.

    Any gin drinkers here?

Dude, You are not drinking enough, or at least drinking too slow.

    Any gin drinkers here?

Gin and tonic is my go-to cocktail. I did a tasting several years ago and found that The Botanist Gin makes the best GT, while Hendricks makes the best Martini. Hendricks has a little too much juniper for a good GT. Equally important, however, is the tonic. Q Tonic is by far the best tonic...

MIT Study Reveals Why Africa Is Still Poor

The question needs to be addressed country by country. "Africa" is dozens of countries with different histories and different indigenous peoples. The factors in one country that keep that economy in poverty won't be the same in another country hundreds or thousands of miles away on the other...

Sporting Clays - Caesar Guerini Summit Sporting

I came close to getting a Caesar Guerini, but ended up staying with Beretta. In the price range you are looking at, you should consider the Beretta 694. They offer it in several clay gun options and barrel lengths and it has been very well reviewed by lots of folks on youtube. I will admit...

    Model 70 Range Day

Congratulations on a great set of Model 70's. I'm a big fan of the rifle and have the Safari Express 375H&H, 300 winmag Super Grade Maple, and 270Win Super Grade. I also use Leupold firedot scopes on all of them.

New and pristine or used with patina?

Patina is cool, especially if you are the one who hunted with the rifle/shotgun and put the patina on it.

    Favorite animal hunt

In Africa, Cape Buffalo. There's something more intense about hunting an animal in its own territory that no only can kill you, but will if it gets a chance. However, I have to say that I look forward to opening day of dove season in Texas probably more than anything else. It's usually a...

    Rifle Actions (Ranked)

The question almost requires a mixture of apples and oranges. Doubles are designed for a specific purpose. Bolt actions are more versatile. But here are my humble opinions: Bolt Actions: Damn near any rifle with a Mauser 98, then the more affordable American copy, i.e. the Model 70--and I don't...

    Preparing for 1st Safari

Welcome and best of luck on your upcoming trip. Unless you are grossly overweight or out of shape, you will be fine if you just do some walking--at least a few miles a couple of times a week before you leave. I've hunted Limpopo 4 times and you will be doing a lot of walking and carrying your...
