That's a proper Ruger. Can you share the load for the Barnes SSP 400 grain?
I'm practicing with Woodleigh 400 grain SP behind a moderate charge of Varget, Whitworth 458.
Works Well.
Were you able to get at least one meal out your daily bag? Rabbits dressed and cooked properly taste really good!
I would do the same thing with my Whitworth 458 WM, if we could track rabbit's on snow here. 405 grain lead FNGC at moderate velocity.
Regarding fit and bolt movement when pulled rearward,
The modern Zastava Mauser 98 Interarms Whitworth is fairly tight, for a Mauser.
Herr Mauser designed in the tolerances for battlefield condition.
Husqvarna 640 (M98 large ring FN Belgium actions) are similarly tight. I really like these...
Leupold makes good Ruger rings with properly hardened screws.
Brownells has T-10 Tork screws for the rings. Have replaced all of my soft Ruger ring screws.
I would call them for the base mount screws.
Also check Leupold, Ruger type rings for M77/Hawkeye. Their medium is the lower than Ruger medium s.I’m not sure compared to Alaska Arms, those are really nice.
The 30mm Leupold works for me.
Modern brass for the 450/400 is 3”.
Hornady with think Norma had produced some, Hornady is currently available.
You cannot form brass from one to the other, rim thickness and base geometry is different. The 450/400 3 inch (aka .400 Jeffery is a a thicker rim and case.
I have not seen brass for...
I think the SC produced rifles were the best of the M70 series post New Haven. The metal work and fit was very good for a mass production rifle. Like everything else, finished product quality was a crapshoot after the Commie Chinese Virus.
I use Hodgon Varget and H4350.
I haven’t seen any POI between 35 degrees and 100 degrees temperature. I’ve used Varget in.308, .30-05 and .375 H&H.
While not max velocity, I load for consistency.
Great photos @BFaucett . A B-25 flew over my house last Friday, on the way to the airshow in Hammond. I heard the sound of a big radial engine, then realized it was the sound of 2 radial engines. Great to see these classics still flying!
Reminds me of when I picked up my first CZ 550 416 Rigby, circa 2004.
LGS in the upstate of South Carolina, where a .300 Weatherby was a big rifle.
The guy at the counter asked me, What you going to hunt with that thing?
Pretty much anything I want.
Your CZ .500 Jeffery is really nice.
It is my understanding from reading Rifle and Handloader magazines (I consider reputable sources). that Magnum Rifle primers are recommended for ball powders, like Winchester 760. I've also seen reference to any powder charge over 60 grains, in cold weather.
Personally, I use a Magnum primer...
Any suggestions on “cheap “ 12 gauge shells that pattern well?
I’ve switched from “dove and quail “ loads to Winchester AA loads and had more even patterns
. It’s been many years since I’ve tested and patterned loads.
At the time I bought the AA loads, in the good old days, the marginal price...
