That's why I started to do pedestals. :D

My Story Of My New In-between Rifle & Why It's A .300 Win Mag...

Congrats on finding you dream rifle. Growing up in Colorado then moving to Montana 51 years ago where I've practically lived on the elk that I've shot, I've been a solid .30 caliber fan. My first centerfire rifle was a .30-06 that I later had rechambered to .30 Gibbs. At that time I also...

A Pedestal Project for a Sable

My taxidermist converted my Scimitar horn oryx wall mount to a pedestal mount by covering the back of the form with leather and imbeding a 1/2" id square tube inside the form. The tube in the mount slides over a 1/2" square rod that is welded on a 1/2" dia wood screw that screws into the top of...

Is a Bontebok worth it ?

Ive hunted both Bontebok and Blesboks. The hunts were very similar except the blesboks were in small herds, and the Bontebok was by himself. My Bontebok has a shinier and "richer" coat, and my bontebok (and many others that I've seen pictures of) has a solid white blaze on his face, while the...

A Pedestal Project for a Sable

Looks GREAT!! I've made 8 pedestals, all out of cherry wood, for some of my mounts, but they are all vertical hexagons and octagons. I made panels in the sides of the pedestals for my Sables and Zebra mounts and filled the panels with the hides of the backskins.

    32 Winchester Special

I didn't grow up in a hunting family so I didn't go on my first big game hunt until I was in college back in 1965. One of my roommates was from NW Colorado and he invited me to go there for my first deer hunt. He loaned me a Win 94 in .32 Spl and I shot a spike muley buck with it. Back at...

What's your favorite cartridge for hunting Africa? Up to 2 choices.

Short answer is that I used my 7mm RM on 2 African hunts, my .375 RUM on 2 hunts, and my .300 Wby on 3 hunts. I took a 7mm RM for PG in the Limpopo Province of South Africa on my first African hunt. My second African hunt was in Zimbabwe for Buffalo and PG where I used my .375 RUM, then back...

    New premium rifle or custom

I'm like Ontario Hunter as I'm old school and I think that most of the modern "tadtical" rifles are just plain butt ugly. I've re-stocked most of my rifles, upgrading to fancier wood and doing the work myself. For two of my rifles I've always cringed on taking them on hunts where foul wet...

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

My .375 RUM came with a 26" barrel and I had a 2" brake installed on it. I've used it on 3 hunts with absolutely no problems.

What cartridge would you choose for hunting Bull Moose in Canada?

Moose are not hard to kill with properly shot hits and proper bullets. You want a deep expanding bullet into the heart/lungs. I've shot 3 moose. Two Montana Shiras bulls with my .30 Gibbs and 180 gr Nosler Partitions and an Albert bull with my .300 Wby and a 180 gr Barnes TTSX. I took a...

    Taxidermy woodwork

Many floor pedestal mount forms are made with a concave curved back, but standard flat back forms can be used on pedestals. The previous pic of my Scimitar horn oryx is a flat back form that is mounted on a floor pedestal. My taxidermist has used two methods of attaching mounts to floor...

Hammer Bullets Fur Hammer. The perfect Tiny Ten bullet?

I used my .375 RUM with 270 gr Barnes TSX bullets on one South African hunt for 2 Steenboks, a Vaal Rhebok, and a Jackal. The holes weren't bad enough that my taxidermist couldn't fix them. I've had a hard, unsuccessful time finding 7mm FMJ bullets for my 7mm RM and ended up swaging .308 FMJ...

    trophy room furnishings

Years ago I was a big fan of Nancy Glaizer's North American wildlife paintings and I was able to buy #29/100 of 9 of her Artist Proof prints. When she still lived here in SW Montana, I had her sign several of them. I had 8 of these prints framed and on the walls of my Trophy Room and Living...
