yes, you are. sorry to say it bluntly, but yes.

Those are both really soft bullets. I am a big hornady defender and I happen to think that the SST is useless on anything larger than a deer. I have had terrible pentratrabtion even on Hartebeest sized game with a 338 and 225gr bullets.

The 458 and 500 seem awfully duplicative. My long safari battery is: 500 Double 416 Ruger (with 2-12 Leupold VX-6 Illuminated) 338 Win or 30-06 depending on the situation/ types of plains game/ cats on license.

I've shot buffalo with 416 Ruger, 458 Lott, and 500 NE. All of them (6 total) resulted in clean kills. The 458 and certainly the 500 are not "necessary". That said, they kill more convincingly and it's an awful lot of fun to shoot buff with a big double or heavy, open-sighted rifle. That...
