21"not over 22". Jungle carbine. Going in the Alaska bush after a wounded Brown Bear, you need something short to get into action fast at point blank range. Same with following a wounded Cape Buffalo in heavy bush. Seen a 460 with 20" barrel. It barked, bellowed and roared. The muzzle blast was...
Because they are cool classic style cartridges, not the boring every day stuff. Don't care what bullet diameter they use. I handload. Don't care if the reloading dies are 3 times as much, or the bullets.
Btw, chronograph velocity out of a 24 inch barrel is 3150fps. A 100 fps less than the 26inch barrel. The game won't know the difference, but l noticed the weight of the heavier barrel. I don't own a 26" barrel on a Weatherby.
The Mark 5 action is massive and heavy. He had to put thin barrels on them to keep them with in the standard weight of 7 1/2 to 3/4 lb's. He wanted an action big enough, strong enough to chamber the 460 Weatherby Magnum.
The Japanese Weatherby's are superior to the Germans. The Jap guns have an all steel trigger, reinforced stock with epoxied steel cross bolts, 4 1/2" 1/4" bolt through the wrist, pistol grip. The Jap stocks are a nicer grade of wood.
Ruger No. 1's need a straighter stock. Even a gunsmith said that. I mount scopes WELL FORWARD with heavy recoiling rifles. Been shooting Weatherbys for 50 years. Never got a Weatherby Brow.
Ruger stocks need to be straighter. Have collected, shot, hunted with Weatherby Mark 5 rifles for 50 years. Never received a Weatherby Brow. Mounted the scopes WELL FORWARD on 340, 375, 378 and 460s.
The 300 Weatherby has taken every game animal in the world. I would use 200gr. controlled expansion bullets.
You have the velocity, energy, bullet weight for both animals. Make sure you can shoot it accurately. It has a lot of recoil. If I had one rifle to hunt the world it would be my...
I've collected hunted shot reloaded Weatherby mark 5 rifles for over 40 years. All of them have been accurate. Leave in the pressure pads in the forearm or skim bed the action and glass bed the first 2 inches of barrel, free float the rest. That usually works with a number 2 contour barrel and...
