    Heym factory regulation options

I listen to The Big Game Hunting Podcast all the time! When it’s an episode about Africa it’s my favourite podcast. I especially like the episodes with Kevin Robertson and I bought his “the perfect shot 2” book because of the podcast. He certainly is a knowledgeable person and has got some...

    Heym factory regulation options

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it. Could I just double check what you meant in your last paragraph? It sounds like it’s not worth getting them to regulate it for my hand loads anyway, as I stand a very good chance of just comming up with a 500gr load myself later, even if they...

I’m sure he meant 500gr. I don’t think anyone even makes 480gr .474 bullets, probably would be good on a big cat though haha - bad sectional density

Thanks guys, all very helpful responses, and some absolutely beautiful rifles there I must say, and some of those groups are very impressive! I am a hand loader but have never owned a double so it will be interesting. I’m hearted by how much lee way there seems to be. I was under the...

I think you are right. I made my final decision and order and also asked that the 450ne be built on the 450/400 frame thinking it was a smaller frame than what’s normally on the 450ne but it sounds like they use the same frame size anyway. I’ll attach a screenshot from the email I got from the...

    Heym factory regulation options

Awsome! Thank you so much. Honestly, the part of me that wants a 500 is being silly. When I can afford a 14 day elephant hunt with Buzz Charlton I can buy a 500ne with case colours, grade 3 engravings etc. Until then the 450ne will be good practice and may well be the one I keep for life...

Awsome. When I get mine I’ll let you know. Are you happy with the 450ne? Do you wish you got a 470 or 500 for any reason? (Or 450/400).

    Heym factory regulation options

Good point. I actually thought I’d buy my first chronograph and chrono some of the factory ammo and then even sacrifice one of them and pull the bullet out to weight the power they use. The way I see it, if I can use as close to the same powder weight and get the same velocity I can’t be far off...

Very kind of you. If I’m in the area I’ll get some more ammo for you on the way

    Heym factory regulation options

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting my first double, likely a Heym 89b with upgraded wood but nothing much else over a base model. The calibres I’m thinking of are the 450ne, 470ne and 500ne. From what I can gather, Heym uses the factory ammo that’s available (probably Hornady) and then you need...

    Double Rifle Misconceptions

The second part is what I was thinking. Worst case scenario, use it as a single shot. I know it’s not why someone buys a double but I feel that worst case scenario you can use different ammo and either site it in for that and make a note of where the second shot will go (aim 8 inches to the left...

Your opinion on selecting a .500 NE 3” or .470 NE?

Although I’ve never used either, something I’ve never heard anyone talk about but I believe is a real benefit of the 470ne over the 500ne is that surely it’s fast to reload owing to the .475 bullet being funnelled into the big hole that is made for a 500ne case. I don’t have a double rifle yet...

Your opinion on selecting a .500 NE 3” or .470 NE?

I’m curious why you would want a 577NE to be regulated with 650gr projectiles. I think that bullet weight is ideal for buffalo but for elephants isn’t it going to defeat the purpose? Perhaps I’m wrong about the importance of sectional density but at 0.271 I’d imagine a 650gr .585” bullet may...
