5 most significant inventions in the last 200 years

Another vote for the Haber process. It gives us food, smokeless powder, explosives, and just is a basic building block of civilization.

Switch barrel rifles and Form 4457

I have a BLR takedown with 3 barrels. US customs was OK, they filled out one 4457 for the rifle, and one for each barrel, calling each a spare barrel for the referenced rifle. I did this at Lubec, Maine. Not to cross but while on vacation. I should have taken it to Africa October, but did...

Safety preference - 3 position or tang safety

A hammer is best. A BLR in 300 win mag, 338 win mag and 375 Taylor. The rifle isn't even cocked, until I cock it. It can be done silently. So I have light, medium and medium heavy. I also use a Montana 1999, with the Winny style.

    Savage 110 .458 Win mag

Savage made a rifle with an undercut bolt, and instead of a plunger ejector it had a standing ejector. My son is a lefty, and I bought him a Savage model 111. It has this style bolt and is a 300 RUM. When you start the bolt forward, the cartridge jumps up, under the extractor. You can pull...

Let's see some Big Bore Lever Guns

BLR three barrel set. Homemade except for the reboring and trigger job. The biggest bore is a 375 Taylor, equal to 375 H&H. I messed up not taking it to Zim in 25, it will go to Canada for moose in 27.

    .375 Elephant

I have killed only 1 ele with a 375 H&H, with a heart (aortic arch really) shot. Yes the 375 will get the job done. Take what you shoot the best. I will disagree with a lung shot. In ele the lungs are attached to the ribs and diaphragm with connective tissue. They don't get sucking chest...

    Practice bullets vs hunting bullets

In hunting I could never tell any difference. My son is picker. He sorts on appearance and then by weight. I just use what is left, or what I come to first. Opps, I should say I haven't shot any "firsts" since the 1990's. They and the seconds might be different today.

    Practice bullets vs hunting bullets

Be on the hunt all the time. I use Nosler Partitions in .30 and .338. I bought seconds, when they were on deep sales. Still shooting 30/180 from the 1990's, but I bought a wheelbarrow load. Same for 30/150 partition golds, I and my rifles liked them so I bout a bunch when they were...

    458 Win Mag vs 458 Lott....The facts

One thing missing in the discussion is that SAAMI is voluntary. No obligation to follow the standards. C.I.P is mandatory, in countries that are member states. Comparing a SAAMI 458 win mag, using non spec ammunition is just silly, while requiring the Lott to conform to both chamber and ammo...

The "basics" for guns in America

You know, we guys spend a lot of money on bespoke shotguns and rifles, stock bending and so on. My wife is a towering 5'2" with 44's. The shoulders are very broad for her size. Classic round head and face for a lowland German. She won't shoot shotguns, they all are uncomfortable. A bespoke...

The "basics" for guns in America

I agree strongly, but if you reload consider the .308 Winchester and Hodgdon H4895 in reduced loads, down to 60%. Reduced loads

If your kids dont want your guns who gets them?

I am right eye dominate and right handed, my son is left, left. So, other than a few choice nuggets that have been given to him already, I am giving guns to my 8 nephews. I should be done soon. I am just going to live with what I shoot. Just a few will need to be sold, my son can handle...

Barrel band, sling loop, or no attachment on a 300 H&H

If your second rifle is a heavy kicker, and you don't want the sling stud in the usual position to avoid finger knocks. Consider the Brockman style and move it to the tip of the for end on both rifles so they are matchy, matchy.
