Wow, wonderful animals! I too was blessed to hunt with my Dad in Africa, now that he has passed I have many wonderful memories to think back upon! Good luck planning your next African safari with your Dad!!
I've taken 7 of the 10 with my .375H&H and Barnes TSX. I am sure there are more ideal guns, but that is what I had in my hands when the animals presented themselves.
My go-to safari rifle, Kimber Talkeetna, .375H&H, barrel cut down to 20” then threaded, put on a Lumley tactical style bolt handle to cycle shots faster. I sent the stock to Dead Eye Customs to be Cerakoted.
From what I have read previously, plus what @Green Chile has mentioned, if I were to use a solids on buffalo, I would opt for the cupped point Northforks. Of the many buffalo I have taken, the only one that caused issues was the one I shot in 1988 with solids.
Awesome buffalo!! Thank you for taking the time to write a hunt report, they are very helpful to us other hunters! Also, thanks for posting the pictures of your ammo, Swift makes great stuff!
I just watched a YouTube video by Mason Leather Outdoors, on these 160 grains from Bear Creek Ballistics, the average velocity was around 105 FPS slower than the advertised velocity. That was from a 16” barrel so perhaps a 20-22” barrel would be closer to the advertised velocity.
I bought some of these, have yet to try them on whitetail. The velocity on these state as 2325 with a 160 grain all copper bullet, the Barnes states 2125 with a 170 grain copper bullet. These may be worth a try.
Really glad you posted this, just last month I had my bank 'wire' funds to D&Y's US bank, now I know when I get home from my September hunt with D&Y I can do the same as you did to pay Dalton.
You're right, more outfitters should be offering this service.
Truist sends my international wire transfers for free, I've had the same great service from them whether I'm in Maryland or North Carolina. Another local bank here in Maryland that has a few branches charges 80.00.
Living in a straight wall cartridge state, I have been starting to use the 350 Legend on whitetails, was wondering how it would work on African animals. Blue wildebeests can be pretty tough, sounds like the 350 did a great job on it.
Waiting 2 years on a safari can seem forever, knowing you’ll be hunting leopard with these guys will make the wait a little easier!
I took my leopard way back in 1988 (when I had hair ) in the Omay area of Zim. I’m one of the lucky ones, on my first day of sitting in a leopard blind I got in...
Did you hunt leopard with Tsala in Zimbabwe or Mozambique?
I agree with your comment that Brandon and Rouan are as good as it gets! Those guys are awesome!
