THanks for the info. I have a load for the Tri-Ball, so I am not flying blind there. I'll dig out a manual and do some looking at 1-1/8 Oz loads for the .690 ball.
Do you trim the wad petals to below the full diameter of the ball? Seems like you would tear off petals in a .685 choke.
Thanks.
With Speer's new data, I can get 2750 with a Speer 250grn SP using PP 2000-MR and I am not at max. Of course this is in an AI Version. New powders and modern pressure testing have made a big difference.
Is there somewhere to get loading info for these? I have everything to cast and load them, but no data. I am currently playing with tri ball loads using heat treated .600 balls.
Thanks
I've got an old 700 with a 24" Douglas Barrel and a M70 Featherweight with a PacNor barrel, both in the Ackley Version. They shoot great with several combos from the manuals, but really do well with 250s. I've also shot cast in them and the occasional Woodleigh 310. The 310s are good for...
You might think about a youth model bolt gun in 223 as well. My girls started shooting ARs with lots of help from dad when they were 4, and moved up to bigger calibers when they were 12 or 13. Depending on where you live, it can be used for deer with the right bullets and will be a great...
I'd go for the Norma in a heartbeat. I have 2 Whelen Ackleys, but the Norma will really push those bigger slugs. You could hunt damn near anything with it.
Just to let you know, you don't need the M2 forearm. I put an M2 barrel on my M1 and at most I had to dremel a tiny bit of material off the inside of the forearm, near the chamber.
Gas checked, and somewhere around 2000fps, but I didn't chronograph the load. I was more interested in getting small groups. Based on Hodgdon Data, it could be pushed up to 2300+
