Brass quality and consistency on the shoulder bump and neck tension. More so consistent loading than chasing a specific number.
I’ve used mediocre components before but had phenomenal accuracy because the ammo was so consistent shot to shot.
That and a good trigger and bedding job to mess with...
The 22 trainer is a huge benefit. Also once I zeroed on the bench I never even checked groups off sticks, it was messing with me thinking I was making bad shots but once I used vital zone steel plates at distances expected it greatly shows your skill level to be good for hunting.
I would just cerosafe the chamber and get an exact measurement of your chamber to be sure.
I had a rifle once that was supposedly just built, come to find out there was no throat just went from case mouth to rifling. I couldn’t get anything to chamber even after the original owner told me he...
I know from my own heat treating and casting with different alloys that it does happen but that’s with hand casted ammo in my shed.
As far as bullets loosing so much hardness that they would not work I don’t think so.
A 405g hard cast bullet that started at 18 BHN I would still use 50 years...
i like the Alaska arms rings you can run low rings with that setup. Solid rings for a QD setup. What did was my “spare” scope was a 1.5x5 in those rings and swapping the scopes back and forth zero stays.
My entire safari I could have gotten away with the 1.5x5 except for 3 animals which all at...
So I had the same dilemma for 2-3 months. I’ve always loved lower power scopes for weight and size but the 2.5x8x36 or a 3x9x36 really are the most versatile and still light enough.
I’m small guy 5’6” 125lbs and I can carry that African with the 2.5x8 all day for 2 weeks down there and I was...
I was very happy, though these rugers I’ve yet to have one new or old that won’t shoot great if you have the stock torqued correctly.
I have this one listed above but also in 35 whelen and it’s the same deal. Great rifles though many people love them or hate them.
Dropped everything I pointed it at.
Before I shot it 2 years ago when I got it I had bedded the action and floated the barrel.
Pillar bed blocks front and rear also. With handloads it was a great shooter. Never tried factory stuff.
Are there any on GB? I remember seeing all sorts of them for a while.
I overpaid for mine In 35 whelen when they first announced them but it was my first brand new factory rifle in that caliber and I just took it to Africa.
I’ve loaded more 44 mag than I could count on a calculator.
Using H110 the standard 23-24g load was min and max for the 240g.
I’ve reduced to 22.5 and it works flawless but for my normal Skeeter loads or light Elmer loads I use unique running 240’s from 900-1100 fps depending on what I want...
