Just an observation here but it sounds like the shots where the Buffalo ran off were all poorly placed. I don't know any animal that is gut shot that wouldn't run off let alone a Buffalo. Getting a .500 Jefferey for someone who can't accurately shoot a .375 isn't going to make them a better...
Depending on condition I would gladly pay $2800 - $3200 without a scope and more if it has decent glass. These were some of the finest guns made in the Ultra Light format. The .243 is an interesting caliber in this rifle, a great stalking rifle for deer sized game.
Growing up in Pennsylvania I have had the privilege to hunt hunt Black Bear and Whitetails on free range public land and in my opinion there are very few animals as smart as a 4-5 year old public land Whitetail Buck. So my list is:
1. Free Range Whitetail Buck at least 5 years old - antlers...
I have 2 Vanguards (308 and 7mm-08) and they were both very picky about what ammo they would shoot accurately. The 308 only likes 150 grain SST handloads while the 7 mm- 08 likes 120 grain Barnes TSX handloads. They both are sub MOA - anything else was 2" - 3" groups at 100 yards. I tried every...
Wait - he actually kills Nilgai with a 30-06 ? According to the people in Texas I talk to anything less than a 338 Win Mag just bounces off them. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Probably the same people who think a .243 is only good for ground squirrels.
When I had 3 kids in college at the same time I divested myself of 2 guns Ito raise some money.
1) Ruger #1 in .270 Winchester, that gun loved 150 Grain Sierra's and was a deer killing machine.
2) Another Ruger - but a 12 gauge Red Label O/U with an English straight stock. I felt I couldn't...
Following to see what the final shipping costs will be. I would be very interested to see what the air freight rate would be for the US ? I have always had the flat skins and head/hjorns shipped for my taxidermist.
Been doing this for years. I buy factory overruns from Midway or Raven Rocks or direct from factory at Sierra. Sometimes they are a 1/3 of the cost of hunting bullets.
I had one in 2.5 - 8X on a M70 in .270 Winchester back in the 80's. I loved the fine tapered crosshairs on the scope. As a young hunter I was very hard on my rifle back then hunting a lot in the mountains and I can say that I don't ever remember that scope losing zero one time. Brings back some...
