IN MEMORIAM
Angelo William Dacey
1933 - 2026
We are saddened to report on the recent passing of one of our very esteemed, pioneering members, Mr. Angelo William Dacey, who died on 23 January 2026, at his home in Kifisia, Athens, Greece.
Angelo was considered the premier PH in the Sudan in the 1970s. One of APHA's Founding Members, Robin Hurt, of @robin_hurt_safaris , described him as a man of huge hunting skills on forest elephants, bongo and giant eland, especially. A PH who knew the southwest Sudan better than anyone. A gentleman hunter of the old school who was hugely respected by all who knew him, particularly trackers, clients, and fellow hunters. A man of integrity and honour who was a treasured friend to those who knew him well.
He is featured in this photo with the greater than 150 lb tusks of a Biki River elephant hunted in 1975. The Sudan, with its large variety of game, was an extremely important country for hunters. But the initiation of the Sudan Civil War, in 1984, stopped all hunting and ensured the demise of much wildlife. Upon having to leave the Sudan, Angelo went on to hunt in Tanzania.
Our sincere condolences to his family, and all who knew and loved him. Go in peace, dear Angelo! If there are hunting adventures to be had in the great beyond, most certainly you are keenly engaged in the pursuit. Safari njema bwana!
