What happens when sweet, little 7-year old Jessica becomes a fully grown female with a calf? Despite her showing no signs of aggression now, when young are involved, any misinterpretation of intent on the hippo's behalf could lead to a nasty and tragic outcome. Why can't modern-day humans seem to understand that wild animals are not pets? Especially a hippo.....

Yea this is dangerous. It hurts someone and then what? They would have to put it down. Let nature be.

"Average" is just a polite word for stupid and the average modern-day human is exactly that.
Most are just recently realizing that smoking cigarettes is often fatal and some don't even grasp it yet.

Failing to perceive the danger of "befriending" a hippo tends to support this sad condition in the apparent dumbing-down of humanity.
"Average" is no doubt why we keep trying to make Socialism work, even though it never has worked (unless of course you are a big shot in the system).

Average humans everywhere, including here in the USA keep voting toward Sociaism, many still light cigarettes to inhale their poison fumes several times a day and one average person in Africa even is raising a hippo as her family pet.

Darwin Award in the making!

I watched the video and heard at the end that these people live in Hodespruit SA which is where I most recently hunted! I have very fond memories of watching a group of hippo in the river each day during lunch!
Big animals that will snap you in half if angered! Like the title said this story will end badly for someone!

It certainly creates problems, and could end with an animal that needs to be put down.

when I was working in Montana 6 years ago, we had a cow Moose that would wander around the lodge and campground area. She wasn't tame, but would tolerate people if they didn't get too close. I would cringe when I saw people try to get close, or feed her. One day, a retired special forces guy, who stayed there in the summer, got a serious beating by this Moose after she had her calf in a willow patch, not far from where he was camped. His dog went into the willows and came out with an angry momma on it's tail. He was an old guy, but tough as nails. He ended up with a broken arm, broken ribs, head wounds, and multiple contusions. He got a helicopter ride to the hospital in Idaho falls.

I steer clear of any animal, especially with babies.

People need to use common sense with any large animal. There was a fellow near my hometown who was trying to develop a new cattle breed. He ended up being killed by a bull he had raised from a calf. I think the incident was even dramatized on a TV special about people who get killed by their "pets"
