Chaps,

When in Africa it is well worth taking a few solids for odd opportunist trophy.

Need an undertaker - not a taxidermist.

Based on the title alone I was going to say there is no such thing as over kill.

Never mind....

Great close up picture, a lesson to everyone.

Dead is Dead

Shot placement, could have saved the day...

I will refuse to be your taxidermist mate.....!!!!

Good shoot.....!!!!!

Looks like most things I've seen shot in the face with a weatherby, it is sure to clear the sinus!

Clear and remove the sinus looks like to me.

If I recall the calibre was .338/378. A neck shot was not an option. The same calibre blew up a Jackal and Duiker. A solid would have done the trick.

Dr. Kevin Robertson, AKA: Doctari505, addresses this very subject in great detail within his excellent book; "Africa's Most Dangerous", (especially on Page 94).
Said book is about hunting African buffaloes however, the affliction commonly known as "Velocity Madness" can be a real issue in regards to other species as well, such as shown on the above posted crocodile photo.

Thats a bigger hole than a .375 on a Springbok. Wow!

Dead dead and triple dead!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
