Special mention for this one. This is the Black Wildebeest that adgunnar's wife hunted. The wind absolutely howled for 3 days straight, and I was not comfortable with the few chances that we had, for her to take the shot. On the fourth day, this big bull was standing in the right place and the wrong time.( For him, anyways.) We got the distance to a mere 50yds. The small herd knew something was up. They were looking in our direction. The bull was quartering towards us. I pointed out the point of aim. As the trigger broke on my Mauser .308Win, the bull swung his head towards his shoulder, only as Black Wildebeest do. It happened so quick, that no one even realized what had happened. The connection was blatant from the thud of the bullet. We tracked the bull for the rest of the day, but to no avail. At one stage, we had 4 dogs on him.

We found the bull limping 3 days later, while the couple was on the tour to Victoria Falls. What had happened was, as the trigger broke, and the bull swung his head, the bullet impacted at the bottom of the sweep of the horn. The bullet took a chunk out, and hit the bull exactly where the point of aim was. The horn however, absorbed so much of the bullet's energy, that it could still brake the shoulder of the Black Wildebeest bull, but just did not have enough penetration to get to the vitals. Here is the photo of the impact on the bull's horns. He will be mounted as is, to tell the tale of when we got lucky.

Looking Good Marius...!

A huge thanks goes out to Marius and KMG for recovering that Black Wildebeest. I had a very dejected better half travelling with me up to Victoria Falls when Marius called to inform us that it had been recovered. A very sad hunter instantly started to enjoy her time at Victoria Falls. We will be on our way back next year for sure, but I would bet cold hard cash that had the Black Wildebeest not been recovered it would be much more difficult to get my wife back out hunting!

Good save Marius.
Those Black Wildebeest are nuts.

One of our forum members got in on the action. Beautiful Cape Buffalo taken by @matt85

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
