Gun control

What Tigris is proposing is basically what we "enjoy" in Spain, and similar to that in many European countries.

Furthermore, we have to renew our licenses every five years for rifles and shotguns, and every three for handguns. You can only own a handgun for target shooting, and you have to be active in competition. Concealed carry licenses are almost impossible to obtain.
We also have a whole bunch of niceties in the way of restrictions on number of guns, certain calibers which are classified as "military", barrel sizes....and so on...

Come to Europe, Tigris, and enjoy

Lots of members are from other countries than the US! Different laws and rules.

yup wayne we are but if i lived in the usa i would carry, and rejoice in the privilege of being able to buy the selection of guns etc that people can . we are a lot better off here than the people in mainland uk (and spain from nyatis post) but you never know when the powers that be will take things away!!!! i carry in zambia as do quite a few people i know, in fact her ladyship has a shit fit if i dont when she is there .

p.s. my new acquisition in case of any naughty people who try and break in the house or are found poaching, that is of course for after i have politely asked them to desist and discussed the social reasons for why they are doing these things..yeah right.

We have it a little better than Nyati. But basically the same. Licenses, relicensing, very rarely allowed to carry a handgun, targets only or collectors.
We can own all the firearms we want. Numbers wise.
There are a bunch of prohibited items though:
Suppressors for one! Why we are always so excited to see one being used to hunt with.

Some places are certainly better off than others.

i know a certain website you can get some good photos of those things if you are interested, maybe even a video sometimes..............;););););):whistle::ROFLMAO:

I guess that is why those of us in the US get worked up when someone starts talking about more control over our constitutional rights. Some are so willing to sacrifice what so many have died to defend. I know that throughout history many other countries helped us claim our independence, and through all of the wars fought, other countries have been by our side.... I refuse to let the ignorant remain ignorant. Many many people have died (from around the globe) trying to preserve what the US is/was, what there nation is/was. Too many folks don't understand the great rights our forefathers made sure that we will always have, (by making them constitutional rights) would never be lost.

Michael/spike.t, you said it best.... You and yours are blessed to have the ability to own the firearms you do, but, on a whim there is the off chance that your ability could be taken away. (Not saying it would be without bloodshed) but nontheless, it could happen. The US has the constitution and the bill of rights (which is mistaken by some of our leaders as the" bill of needs" from time to time) to protect our God given rights.

Here's my ideas

1. A class/license like what one would have for vehicles

2. An extensive psychological evaluation to make sure you're not cocoa bananas

3. Keeping a check on gun owners in-case they go batty.

4. Promoting general common sense and punishing bad behavior like what they have with driving.

And finally, you can't just be a nice guy, you also have to be RESPONSIBLE with these things that can kill with the pull of a trigger. As one wouldn't try to jump a gorge in their old clunker, one shouldn't reenact scenes from Westerns and action movies (most of which use trained professionals). And of course, we should also be investing in mental health care more if we're to avoid more shooting. This isn't perfect but what is?

Tigris115,

1. Vehicles are the most common piece of equipment used in accidental death and intentional death of N. Americans so, why hasn't the driver and vehicle licensing system already in place kept us safe from stupid drivers and criminal drivers alike? ... Gross failure, like everything else The Government sticks their filthy/corrupt fingers into.

2. My idea of cocoa bananas and The US Government's (currently Socialist) opinion of cocoa bananas differ quite a bit.

3. The corrupt US Government keeping check on me, in case I go batty? ... Refer back to #2.

4. Promoting general common sense ... The US Government is suddenly possessed of common sense? That's hilarious.

And finally, RESPONSIBLE ...to begin with I would not try to jump a gorge in anything, or reenact movie scenes, not even when I was young like yourself.

As far as investing in mental health care, how can we accomplish that one when the American Civil Liberties Union, also known as The ACLU (look them up if you are not familiar with them) stops us at every turn in the Courts, usually sending in Socialist agenda lawyers to foil the system's attempts to put dangerous people into lock-down and serious therapy?

You are 18 years of age.

Someone said that in The USA, up to about age 35, if you are not a Liberal, then you have no heart and after about age 35, if you are not a Conservative, then you have no brain.

Regarding people like myself who is more Conservative than my own parents and has been just so for as far back as I can remember, draw your own conclusion, or refer back to your point #2, or try to visualize whirled peas, or just sit down and have yourself a good cry because you cannot control me, or whatever makes you happy, short of jacking with my Rights sonny.

Perhaps you should go out and find yourself a job,
Velo Dog.

The OP video is very distressing... it rings way to true.

Obama does have to be the best gun salesman since Clinton... He sure had me joining the gun-a-month club after the last election.

P.S.
Isn't a tigress female?

I do have to apologize, I honestly assumed that by the name and stuff we were talking to a female... but I just figured out how to check the profile and it does say that tigres115 is male, and 18.

So tigres115, please forgive me for that incorrect assumption. I meant no disrespect by it. I am admittedly social media challenged.

And we do need young people like your self to be taking an interest in these issues... It is your future after all.

I got into a detailed discussion with my 16 year old last night about the shooting by the police officer that is all over the news... And now I realize why my father would tend to get impatient with me when I was young... The assumptions and reasoning that makes perfect sense at young age, just simply does no longer compute when you get more life experience.

So I hope you stay around and keep hunting and stay on the board. And I hope you keep an open mind because us old foggies with more miles behind us than ahead probably are to seasoned and pragmatic to see things working out the way your enthusiastic and idealist young mind can.... So forgive me for my mistake.... and I hope we can all understand that you are young and misguided on your ideas but we should be grateful you are participating and hopefully you will be able to grow old in a world that turns out better than what us old guys foresee right now.

There are ways to disagree on a public form without denigrating other individuals.

How many times does the Supreme Court have to affirm that the right to own a gun is our right not a privilege. Tigris 115 you need to think about this a little more. So should freedom of assembly be taken away from people we think are not responsible? Should houses of worship need to get a permit before having services? You can not pick and choose which constitutional rights should continue.

Now think about this. When most people carried guns, 1880 to 1910, we didn't have nut jobs go into schools or public gatherings and shoot the place up. You know why? Because 75 to 80 % of males carried a gun and would turn on the nut jobs and gun them down if they tried to shoot others. These sick SOBs are not normal and my right should not be taken to exclude them from getting a gun.

Think about this......until about 1965 nut jobs in this country were locked away and kept from hurting themselves and others. But now we turn them out In The streets and mainstream them in our schools to help them live full filling lives. What a crock of crap! We put up with so much liberal crying about guns they are about to wear people down just like they have on every other social issue over the last 100 years.

But guess what Tigris115. You and your friends need to try for a constitutional amendment to repeal the 2nd one. But you will never get it because you have to have it ratified by two thirds of the states. That means you need 38 states to go along with stupidity. Thank God for Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi , South Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee , Utah, Arizona, Montana, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas and Arkansas. These states population would never approve and thus will save the rest if the country from making the biggest mistake of our history. Government you see derives it's authority from the people in the USA and as long as we have our right to bear arms it will stay that way.

Ask those vets from the greatest generation what they fought for? Freedom! Freedom from a government that would terrorize its own people. It can happen when the people are not armed.

In South Africa if you own three guns the government requires you to gave a permit for each one that looks like our drivers permit. You can't even buy ammo for a gun that you can't produce a permit for. That means when the government decides to change the rules they can come get your gun. No way we should ever let that happen here. Period!

Hey CAustin, you forgot Idaho! :D
tigris115 you seem to have pushed a button or two :sneaky: Maybe that was your intent and if so there's nothin' wrong with that. You have obviously tapped into the emotion many of us share for freedom and the Constitution of our great country that so many have fought and died to protect. You have the freedom to believe as you wish and express your beliefs freely because of the patriots who have sacrificed with a blank check written to the people of the United States of America. Once again I assume you are from the U.S....
When someone suggests that it might be a good idea to start jacking around with the foundation of our liberty it tends to boost the blood pressure a bit :X3:
Scott Slough's post above is on point and deserves acknowledgement. Thank you Scott. If my post above came across as being denigrating I sincerely apologize. I simply question whether tigris115 is who he says he is. It was not intended as a slam, but upon re-reading it I can understand how it would come across that way. My bad.
tigris115 you seem to toss out grenades then abandon the conversation. Why?

Tigris115, I also hope you stay on the board and continue to absorb the wealth of information offered here. The only fun in having an opinion is that you can use it to spark a response in the other guy! Do not be afraid to piss someone off :D But, don't get upset when they return the favour.

There is no doubt that guns are specifically designed to kill. To some that is offensive but to me it is a good thing because I want to take game cleanly. So, do we only allow us to own hunting rifles ...wait, I read in the national geographic of a couple of artic explorers who used a hand gun to kill a polar bear that was stalking them for two days.

OK, hand guns can only be owned by the police, military and artic explorers...o_O

I am also aware that there are crazy people out there who kill people. But most gun related death is not attributable to those deranged persons. There is a video posted on AH showing people doing profoundly stupid things with their firearms . Not one was criminally insane. However, their actions put innocent people at risk. A couple of those videos showed guns going off in apartments! Did those bullets pass through the wall and into the skull of a child? Can a law prevent that? Nope. The USA already executes and incarcerates more people than most other industrialized countries so the chances of another "tough" law changing criminal and/or stupid behaviour is slim to none.

On the other hand will universal gun ownership help? I am not sure about that because I was involved in a case of a police shooting and we looked at some aspects of a gun fight. A NY study showed the police hit their target in a gunfight about 20% of the time and the criminals about 12%. Fear and confusion has a lot to do with accuracy. That means between 80%-88% of the time the lead flies off into the city beyond....Now imagine a room crowded with adults that have various levels of training and all carrying a guns and some lunatic, somewhere in the room, opens fire....So, where does that leave us? If your concern is murder then you need to concern yourself with the reasons people kill. I suspect the gun control mantra just avoids addressing much tougher sociological problems. As my father is found of saying "there are lies, dam lies and statistics!" So, take the time to drill past surface of the problem.

I personally will not own an automatic weapon and those assault rifles at the range do not make me swoon like an old wood stocked hunting rife. That is a personal choice but it does not give me the moral authority to prevent some other law abiding, tax paying person from owning one. And, I do not think the government has the right to do so if the problems they seek to address are actually unrelated to ownership. I have not seen one thing in this debate that tells me gun ownership is the problem. What we are really concerned with is education, training and underlying social problems.

One other thing (and I only write this because I am concerned you were pushed back by the force of the comments made to you): When I was at university I took a position on an issue in class that polarized the debate (I have a big mouth and I am not shy about opening it lol). The room went silent until the prof said "Does anyone else have an opinion or are you all chicken". I was then subjected to many other firmly held beliefs! I guess I am saying do not be afraid to hold an informed opinion on this forum (or anywhere else) and do not be afraid to consider the opinions of others, no matter how offensive they seem to you. And, yes, I did spice up this post a little to inject some ideas I thought may be controversial.

shit scott save me reading everything and who is denigrating who? short precise please. :)

I was refering to calling Tigris a female (as if a female was in some way inferior to a male). ActionBob apologized BEFORE I posted my comments (although it had not posted on my computer through the wonders of slow internet) and IdaRAM almost as quickly (see above).

I have a suggestion to anyone who would like to remove gun ownership, make it a step by step process...

Step 1: Remove all illegal guns from circulation
Step 2: Remove all criminals from circulation
Step 3: Remove all self defence weapons - they wont be necessary if there are no criminals and no illegal firearms in circulation!!!

Easy huh?;)o_O

Hope no one takes this too seriously - its late in the afternoon and its been a crappy day at the office!!!

I feel pretty stupid about that. A couple comments refered (correctly) to ttigres115 as he and him, and I thought I was correcting that when in reality it was me who was wrong. I was stupdly making assumptions and in my head confused tigres115 with another member whom I know to be female and does make similar comments. it was an honest but stupid mistake.

I certainly meant no inference that a female opinion is inferior.

I to hope that tigres115 comes back to the discussion.
