Greetings everyone,
My wife and I will be hunting South Africa in June and we will be touring the Limpopo Province after our hunt in a rental car, any suggestions or advice about traveling with firearms and ammo?
Appreciate any advice, Thanks

For safety we left our firearms with the outfitter and then had them transported by licensed courier to meet us at OR Tambo on the day of departure.
I did not want to carry firearms around in our car. Visiting Parks, etc.
Avoid the hassle if you can.

Best is to make an arrangement with your outfitter for safekeeping,or phone Adelle at +766119991 or mail her at hunterspermitsafrica@telkomsa.net.She does safekeeping of firearms about five minutes from O R Tambo airport.

Yeah, you defiantly do not want to take your guns with you while sight seeing. As mentioned above, try to make arrangements with your outfitter to keep them while you travel.

Good advise. I wasn't really thinking about the game park angle when I first read this post.

I have never done this, but have heard of hunters leaving firearms with Afton House and African Sky while touring. Of course they use those guest houses for lodging while in Jo.

Your weapons will be in good hands at Afton. All four times we have traveled with our firearms we stayed with Afton. They are very good. Their guest house is secure and close to the airport. We were well-taken-care of , every single time. I would never stay with anyone else. And no, I am not getting a discount or anything. Just great folks that cater to the hunter from the minute you arrive and then some. Also, it's a very nice, very clean place, they helped us with everything and will store your weapons while you venture out.

This is good to know. I am planning my next safari in 2015 and we are planning to tour before the safari, partially to acclimate to the time change. Last time we stayed at the City Lodge at OR Tambo, but I vowed next time to stay with one of the mentioned guest houses.

Afton House is licensed as a gun repository and they store them in an honest to God bank vault type enclosure. That is what I will do when I do some driving around in SA next time. As GI Jane says, Nice folks there.

Afton house like everyone says, they do this all the time. Great people.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and input.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
