Has anyone recently checked through firearms from the USA to SA with firearms going through Heatrow on American Airlines and transfering to British Airways (all in the same terminal building in Heathrow?

American airlines won't take guns to the UK. You must fly BA to do that.

Unfortunately my buddy is going to Namibia with me in April and he can only use his miles on American to London He's trying any way he can to get his rifle there. He can borrow one but he wants his if it can be worked out.

Cliffy...

I would suggest that you and your friend call Lori...Middle right side of the Page...

Lori will be able to provide you the very best up to date information on flying...

I would suggest that you check the airline web page to see
[h=3]Firearms/Ammunition[/h]View the rules and regulations for transporting firearms and ammunition on flights within the U.S. For information on transporting these items internationally, please contact Reservations.

American Airlines does not accept firearms in checked baggage to or from the United Kingdom
(except for military or government personnel with proper documentation).

Now Cliffy if you want to fly on American airlines i would suggest that you rent a rifle in Namibia.

The only way around this is to fly to Montreal and then to London. They will accept guns on AA from canada but not the US. It's a pain but it will work!!

I've been help my friend for a couple of months on this issue and from the start I told him it might be a losing battle UK rules allow the trans shippment of firearms as long as they don't wind up "at any time" in one of many different countries". However it looks like so many hunters tried to take them to those banned countries that American got fined so much they just stopped all firearms to the UK. My buddy will probably have to borrow a rifle as I am doing the same this time (5th trip toAfrica) just to avoid the bag drag and hassle. I have been working with Lori and I do know about the airline website but thanks for the suggestions.

the country this applies to is zimbabwe as there is a uk govt embargo on shipping firearms of any type there. it applies to anybody travelling out of the uk and having zimbabwe as the end destination on their air ticket. as ba pulled their direct flights to zim a few years ago you went via joburgh, and the way around it was to have your through ticket terminate there, and have a separate ticket from joburgh to harare. this worked ok i think till the sa police brought in the newer visitors licencing, which made it a bit of a mission if you just wanted to transit in a couple of hours.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
