Ok now that I have my mounts back from Africa I have some questions.

First is does anyone know what the oily like substance is on my shoulder mounts(smells like a solvant or an insecticide)? Is it something that can be washed out?

Second is these are the first skull mounts I have. I want to mount them to a plaque. Prob in the shape of Africa. Any recommendations on ways to do this? Just brain storming now.

Finally any thoughts on how to attach the horns to the skull since they come detached crime the skull?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Here is a link to a thread with all the info you should need. As for the oily substance talk with your taxidermist. It is probably insecticide in which case I would try to wash it with soapy water (on a cloth not submersed). Use Dawn dish detergent as a soap, by far the best. Always sponge with the grain of the hair or angling across it never against it.

Did exactly this.
Soapy water, rubber gloves and air dried them.

On this same subject, any good methods to get a buffalo skull onto the wall?
No plaque though.

I just did a Google search for "european mount hanger"and found some possible options. Only question is strength on mount. Don't know if they could hold a buffalo skull, some should? I saw some things on sights diamond pointed out. I am def going to have to think about this.

Research Mannikins Trophyhanger (link above) has models for Cape Buffalo and one even bigger for Bison. I have not used them and would only be guessing as to how they are intended to be attached but they do have a good tech team that would give you step by step info for this.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
