Politics

I am not picking on your post, but since I think I am the only left-leaning Jew on here, this was just a convenient place for me to jump into the conversation.

I do think you are speaking a little too broadly when you criticize Democrats. There are many Democrats in Congress who are and have remained staunch supporters of Israel. That is even true amongst those who are “progressive” like Senator John Fetterman.

The divide that does exist in the Democratic Party is more a generational divide. As a nation, we have clearly failed to properly raise and educate the next generation, abdicating that responsibility to TikTok. Unless we address this fast, it is clear to me that we will lose this nation.

I may be more left of center than most here, not as if that would be hard, but I have never been a supporter of the “progressive” wing of the Democratic Party, especially in its current form, which is really the socialist party hijacking the Democratic Party’s ballot line to get elected. Even still, the naked antisemitism coming from some of these people is beyond galling.

So while you may see or hear about some Jewish groups supporting this nonsense, the vast majority of us, especially those not on TikTok, are seeing all of the hate coming from the anti-Israel antisemitic members or the Democratic Party, and we will not forget it. I am not alone in voting against any candidate who supports Hamas, even if that means voting Republican.

It is great to hear from you and I appreciate you replying to my post. I always enjoyed your viewpoints.

I probably did paint to broad of a brush with that statement, and this is probably the downside of social media posts and politics in general. Everything requires nuance and details matter.

The amount of antisemitism that came from the progressive wing, and agreed it is mostly the tiktok younger generation to me was rather shocking. I will be honest, as someone who has friends and relatives of all religions and ethnicities, I kind of thought that we had moved beyond that type of hate. I was sadly wrong.

It is also beyond my comprehension that there are Americans still hostage and Americans are demanding a ceasefire and spouting Hamas talking points.

I'm an older millennial, I cant quite pin point where it all went wrong, but as you mentioned there definitely has been a failure somewhere in the last 20 years.

It seems to me that we were making real progress as a society in undoing racism and prejudice, moving toward true equality. But then something changed in last decade or so, and suddenly society was supposed to be moving toward “equity” instead, and those of us who fought hard for equality were suddenly “oppressors” and other labels.

And why such virulent antisemitism from the progressive left? I attribute it mostly to a young, uneducated base who take their political cues from social media. It certainly does not help that the most popular social media amongst this group is controlled by an antisemitic authoritarian communist autocracy that is actively attempting to undermine Western hegemony.

There is also the whole “oppressor” worldview adopted by these people which has led them to blindly support whichever group appears to be the least western, assume all foreign conflicts are the direct product of “colonialism” by America, and even reframe barbarity as justice.

An even less charitable or politically correct view is that demographic shifts have empowered certain groups that have, at least historically, been antisemitic.

If you are looking for the most stupid politicians of the world:

We in Germany have perfect candidates. One of the dumbest persons is our "environmental minister" Mrs. Lemke, green party, fully loaded with ideology and without any clue what´s happening in reality...

I support the open letter of the Namibian environment minister by 100%:

Largest barge crane on the US east coast arrived in Baltimore yesterday. The Chesapeake 1000 has a 1,000 ton lift capacity. As big as this might sound, this is a fraction of the size of some of the offshore oil industry heavy lift vessels, which are capable of 5,000 to 14,000 ton lifts, with much taller and longer reach. Heavy lift vessels also have dynamic ballast systems, which help to keep the barge level. You can imagine when a crane barge lifts a heavy load, the barge hull will be displaced deeper into the water. Heavy lift vessels will actually take on water ballast before a heavy lift. As the crane starts to take on load, air compressors kick on and start to displace ballast and can keep the barge hull movement to a minimum. It's all computer controlled and pretty sophisticated.

When I worked in Angola, Heerema's Thialf heavy lift vessel installed several offshore platforms. The Thialf is rated at 14,000 tons and is self propelled and is dynamically positioned.

It will be interesting to see how the bridge salvage operation is conducted. Will the old bridge steel be salvaged or can sections of the bridge be lifted and transported offshore to create an artificial reef. There have been many offshore platforms removed in the GOM and placed on the ocean floor in the "Rig to Reefs" program. (Despite a platform not being a "Rig." The media calls everything in the oil patch a rig).

Biden approves $61m in aid for Baltimore.
Certainly wouldn't want a Democrat stronghold to pay for anything.
I'm sure that Pete Buttplug will do a fantastic job overseeing the situation.

I think this is one of the most predictable short plays in the last ten years, hence the reason for the $18 premiums on 2025 Puts.

If I were still playing the market, I would short it by a considerable amount just before the Manhattan trial verdict. Just look at the P/E ratio. Easy money.

Thoughtful piece worth reading.

These politicians/regulators are on another planet.....

Well, if the solution is to use flare gas for energy production, that is not a technical challenge. We have done several projects using methane to power IC engines for power generation.

Feds are taking the lead on this, as they should regardless of politics.
But no one will pay for anything.

Not everything is a conspiracy of "the swamp" :sneaky:

Latest update from Strieff over on RedState. It is extremely thorough as usual with his typical only slightly disguised disdain for the Russians are simply misunderstood and Ukraine is losing the war crowd advocating appeasement or abandonment or both. He is truly a breath of outspoken and informed fresh air over on a solidly right site.

Absolutely. It is essentially a national emergency to get that port back open. Every possible federal asset needs to be brought to bear, whether financial or material.

A stock that literally has no value unless Trump is elected president. If he fails, his political value continues to diminish since he will never be a candidate again. The RNC won’t want anything to do with him because they’ll want fresh blood.

I’d recommend selling short.

Alternatively, if Trump loses, the thin red line for free speech will be Twitter, which I think is the social platform that has the most upside potential. That potential will only increase if Biden wins, since the rest of media is so biased and repressive it will be the only public square.
