It is nice to see so many Hunters on AH that take their children on Safari with them, it ensures a great future for hunting and hunters alike. We will be running a "pilot" program next season were we will take a young man to South Africa on Safari for 6 weeks. He has never hunted and his family does not hunt either.
We will let him join us durring hunts, let him do some skinning (cull animals), work the fence and if he feels up to it I will let him shoot one animal. If he is lucky enough he may even carry my rifle;) He will also get to interact with clients and be involved in all the behind the scene work that makes a safari successfull and enjoyable. He will of course get screwed around a bit and get to walk a fair amount to do seemingly nothing important, all in good spirit:D
We hope that if it works to repeat the same every season.
Would appreciate any input from the AH family as to what more they would like to see the young man get up to:sneaky:

Thanks
Tokkie

@spike.t we know his family, but that was not the reason we chose him. Believe it or not I made the same offer to a young lady here in Sweden a year ago,she does hunt, she never came back to me.

I've got a soon to be 17 year old who would benefit greatly from hard work for little if any pay if you need one. But he is a hunter already.

@PHOENIX PHIL, hard work,no pay, no cell,no internet except for a message or two to the family, but lots of fresh air, beautifull landscapes, red sunsets and a sense of achievement after a days work. Hell, wish I was 16 again!! I will keep in touch and see how it works for us this comming season.

No joke!!!!

Would have done this so quickly it would make your head spin.... hope the person truly learns from the wonderful experience.

Please keep us posted through out the time he is with you, will be interesting.

This is a fantastic idea! I teach kids rifle shooting at my sportsmans club many of them come from families that are not gun owners. It's a great feeling to see the sense of accomplishment in these kids and often the kids convert the family over to shooting and hunting.

Hope the chosen participant is interested and motivated.

Good luck.

Sounds good. Austin loves to hunt, but he does give me the strangest looks sometimes when I mention living in a much more rural place. He also gets the sense of achievement after working at something. But he still has as so many American teenagers a lack of appreciation for what he has and takes it far too much for granted. Having his butt worked into the ground for a month or so would do wonders for him.

I missed this post initially due to my Christmas retail season. I hope your pilot program works. I have a grandson that could use it in a couple of years. He's a good kid, but likes the video games too much. I'd gladly pay his airfare to have him out there for a summer. He turns 14 this July. Put us on the list to consider if the program works out. I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
