which do you prefer to carry out there while you're hunting/camping?

a big lock blade folder or a smaller fixed blade belt knife?
lets say if they are both about the same size and weight..

[not these shown samples, they are just for comparison/argument sake--there are many, many different makes out there in both concepts that will fit this catagory]

both have their advantages and disadvantages,
but which do you prefer?
yes ,ultimately it propably will come down to personal preference ,but why this specific choice?

Small folder and a small fixed blade.

I usually prefer a fixed blades as I think most folders are difficult to get totally clean and dry after gutting an animal.

But I really like to bring this knife when out hunting. Sometimes together with a fixed blade.

The Smith&Wesson Power Glide.
I don't hang it on my belt. I just have it in a pocket.

Pure "Old School". My father's knives from the 1960's. I use them today.

I do not like a knife in a sheath hanging from my belt. Lost a few that way. Knife stays in the hunting pack.

Leatheman surge in my pants pocket.
On my hunting pack an 18 in tramontina machete and a mora knife.

I carry a folding combo knife from Cabelas although it's not smack. It has a blade with gut hook, a saw and a fleshing knife!

After "just going to briefly glass there" then walking more than a mile from the truck, dropping a mule deer in a rugged ravine just before dark and realizing my knife was in the pack left in the truck. Never again. A Cold Steel Pendleton Mini Hunter is always in my bib pocket. Handy little knife, can gut and skin deer and antelope. A little small for moose and elk.

I have way too many knives, including 3 Rick Menefee custom knives. I am almost afraid to use them for fear of losing them or using them enough that I will have to sharpen them and manage to screw them up in the process. Truly practical works of art.

I have made my own knives since I lost an expensive one in the early 70's and have always taken a fixed blade for actual field use but I am never without a small liner lock I made a few years ago. Had always carried a smaller folder and like this one better than the factory models I had had before hand. It would do the field work if needed but I very much prefer the fixed blade.

Never out bush without a fixed blade on my belt. Usually have a leatherman and a small back up in my pack.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
