"When a client shows up in camp with a .375 Holland & Holland, you immediately know that have a practical and able chap as a customer, a wise and knowledgeable hunter who will listen to reason.

When a client shows up in camp with a .458 Win Mag, you know that most likely the only experience the hunter has had is reading the pages of Outdoor Life magazine, probably 30-year-old editions.

When a client shows up in camp with a Remington or Weatherby in any caliber, you know the hunter's experience probably does not extend past the clerk at the gun counter.

When a client arrives with a double rifle, you know you have an elitist for a customer, much like the guy coming down the charter-boat dock at the marina carrying a fly rod, and you approach him with caution.

When a client shows up with a .416 Rigby, you know you have someone who has studied and respects the rich history and traditions of the sport of dangerous-game hunting.

But when a client shows up in camp with a .404 Jeffery, you know this is someone who cares enough about said history and traditions to go to the immense trouble of obtaining and loading a rifle long sacrificed to the gods of mass production and commercialism. You take a liking to this guy immediately."

Very true a bit generalized though, I have guided guys with doubles that bought them because they could and could not shoot them.. :) I do understand where you are coming from and respect it very much.

But one simply can not judge a book by its cover.

    Keep it coming DOC!!! :)

Doc, I like where this is going.

Understand the point you are trying to make here, but, everyone has an opinion and different shooting habits. I currently own 6 model 700's (one in 375 h&h) and 1 model 788, wouldn't trade them for anything else (they work for me) and I am having a custom built 458 win mag, sold my 416 Rigby to fund this project. So opinions aside, like Jaco said, "shouldn't judge a book by it's cover" what works for one man may not work for another.

Never had much luck myself with any of the CRF (except the CZ 550 it was amazing), but I never knocked anyone who chose them for a hunting rifle. I think, as previously mentioned, if I were a PH I would be more concerned with the guy/guys carrying a brand new rifle of any kind without the scares from hunting. Oh yeah and babylike skin on the palms of his hand when you shook it to introduce yourself.

Jaco, I knew an elderly man who owned a customised .460Wby remodelled from old Brno .458Win, very very light in weight and very pleasant to carry as I carried it for him for a couple of days. On this particlular hunt he used factory loads, suppose he ordered them I dnt know, anyway. After the ele hunt he showed me a bruise on his shoulder and complained a bit about the bite of the .460wby. I asked then why does he use the .460wby...his response included pointing to the last downed elephant and he said, "Because I don't have a .600!"

Doc...I see you have a big SPOON today...

What about People who own Ruger's, Colts, Rigby's???

    Or who own Sako's, H & H's, Browning's, ???

Or who own Dakota's, Montana's Boss & co????

Or who own Beretta's, W.W. Greener, Westley Richards???

    Or who own Heym's, Alex Henry's, W. J. Jeffery's???

Or who own George Gibb's, Lyon & Lyon's, and others??? The list could go on...

Do these rifles have to be old well used guns or do they have to be new shiny rifles???

What if a client shows up in camp with your most revered rifle and has never shot it before??? Will that change your tune?

Now what if it is a 5 year old rifle, or say a 10 year old rifle or even if it is a 100 year old rifle of your lesser grade of rifle and your client can shoot a fly of a camels ass at a 1/2 mile would that change your tune?

So DOC tell what you really think about rifles that you do not like or own??? Come on now let it all hang out...

Come on DOC go for it...
