I have finally assembled my 3 gun battery for Africa.

Top is a 1994 Brno ZKK 600 in 7x57. Scope is a Kahles CT 3-9x42. I am going to use 162gr Hornady projectiles for now. I haven't quite got the load finalised but should get just over 2700 fps .

Middle is a 1924 Mauser Oberndorf Type B in 9.3x62. I'm using a 286gr projectile at 2200 fps to regulate with the open sights.

Bottom is the latest rifle, only got it yesterday. A 1950's FN mauser with a MAB barrel in .404 Jeffery. This is the rifle made by forum member VonGruff. haven't fired it yet, but it will happen this weekend.

The only thing to add is a double in .470 NE, but I am going to have to win the lottery for that one!

This place can be a bad influence in a Nice way

I would take:

30-06

375 H&H

458 Lott

130gr to 550gr...

Ado

Very nice classic set there, well done.

550 grn projectile , may be a tad heavy for the .06 ado....

Very nice, love the .404!

Great set to take to Africa but narrow it down to two!

you shouldn't need anything more than those 3 .

Perfect, you do not need anything else...( a Mauser8x57 JS would be the only thing hitting harder in the bush than the perfect 7x57 Mauser) A rifle build by Garry , the 404 Jeffery you will not get better craftsmanship..it will kill anything with ease...dead...the 9.3x62 is an old classic..you will not get better than this caliber for the African bush...so you have the perfect set up...now you need a good PH and some luck....(y)

Great set up, covers everything and is very traditional. Love it

The only thing I would add is a shotgun - I understand bird hunting is very good in Africa. I plan, if and when I get to go, to take a shotgun or see if I can borrow one from the PH for a day or two of birds as well as plains game.

Great looking arsenal!(y)

A lot of character in those firearms.

VonGruff's 404.............:)

Very good choice . This is a classic set. Congrats.
I use ZKK600 in 275Rigby, ZG47 in 9,3 x 62 and Mauser M98 in 404Jeffery.
Your Mauser FN in 404Jeffery is beautiful.
We like the same calibres StuG.
I would like double rifle in 450/400Jeffery.

Beautiful battery! I like that 404. They say that great minds think a like. My "Traditional African Battery" has been commissioned, 7x57 & 9.3x62 mausers, complete custom jobs. I already have CZ550's in 375H&H and 458 Lott. Love them both. Now all that is needed is the Westley Richards 577 NE double with drop locks for the squirrel hunting around the bush here in Canada. :W Shotgun:

I would be deeply honoured to know that this 404 has been to Africa and taken the game it was built to take.
As an aside my 7x57 that was to be its light rifle hunting mate is very well served with the 160gn Woodleigh PP bullet over ADI 2209 (H4350) for 2700fps.
Am going to be watching for the day the safari starts.....................

It is definetly planned VonGruff, unfortunately it will take a while to save the funds, for the first trip the whole family are going. Planning on 2018, but only plains game for that trip. I had planned on taking the 7x57 and 9.3 as the 9.3 came from a farming family in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. But now I have the .404 it might get the nod. It would be very effective on kudu and wildebeast!!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
