Hi guys,
I just wanted to confirm that what i heard from a local game scout stationed at Tanzania Big Game Safaris' concession was true. He said that at the start of this year's season, PH John Greef had been severely mauled by a leopard while he had been following the wounded feline in thick cover. The mauling, he said, cost him (John Greef) an eye (though he didn't specify which) and at the moment he was narrating the story to me, John was at a hospital in SA receiving treatment.
Does any one here have any complete information concerning this incident? Info will be much appreciated.

Cheers,
M. Atik

The following was copied directly from the 'Hunt Report' periodical;

"PH John Greef was mauled by a leopard in Tanzania last month. He was following up a wounded cat when the attack occurred. Sketchy details and lots of rumors were still being bantered about on the hunting forums as I wrote this, but I was able to confirm that Greef was guiding a client in Raoul Ramoni’s area with his son, Dusty. Greef was bitten in the face and suffered a broken jaw and punctured eye. His son was injured as well, and I’m told, lost a couple of toes when he was shot in the foot."

Wow!
that must have been sore??
All the best!
Ibie

I wish them both a full recovery!

That's very sad indeed. I wish John Greef and his son a fast and full recovery. Thank you very much Big 5 for the much needed info.
Cheers.

Craig Boddington has a charitable fund that hunters can donate money to that helps the families of PH's that are injured on the job.

Here is the link to the the site that donations can be made to if you are interested. On the home page there is an article about John Greef.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
