Thanks Bluey, glad you like it. Here is some video of his mate. I think he may be a little bigger.

I am getting a sense that some Sanbar steaks are in the offing.

Thanks for sharing your videos. Amazing, are they rutting? (I assume so)

Brickburn,
At the moment my freezer is full so I don't really need steaks from a tuff old stag. Having said that, I still trying to find the bugger and get a good look at him. I have found out that trail cameras make them look bigger then they are.

Sambar are a different from most deer species as they don't rut at any set time. As soon as there is a doe in season (this can happen anytime of the year) they will rut. As far as having a bath in a wallow, they just seem to like doing it as I have photos of stags that are half grown right through to mature ones like in video.

It is amazing what we have learned in the past few years with the availability of trail cams and as they get better this will only improve what we can learn.

Nice video. Nice to be able to observe animals in their natural world.

Trail cam designers learned from African PH's.

Makes them a little harder to hunt, no set rut.

Nothing like first hand information to help the learning process. Learning the size is always an incentive for more trips to a location for sure. :)

they are two good looking stags richeb funny how near every samba hunter is with a good freezer of venison at the moment ,they are rutting pretty hard in the east at present with the stags doing some out of the ordinary thing s up here .
now youve gone and got all kean again to go and check my cameras before the weather moderates and i drop the ropes again hopefully the big one i seen two weeks ago has stayed in the area and ive got some photos to post later or next week.
a mate of mine has had to stop on the A1 twice in the last week for the same stag. he wont last long with the spotlight brigade touring around most nights

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
