I have seen a couple threads in past that discussed bringing your suppressor back but everyone gets off on tangent about ammo selection. I would like info if anyone has actually done this with ease. I am getting 4457 for my new rifle , I have a separate 4457 for suppressor or just add to same one with rifle? Obviously I will have a copy of my trust as well as stamps. (Should I take originals or copies?)

I personally asked ATF and they said I had to have a letter from the Secretary of State to export a suppressor. So they're saying there's a chance! I would like to hear from someone on this forum who has taken a suppressor out of he country and returned with it and not a lot of speculators and what ifs.
I'll probably push it on my next safari (not 2016) and see if it can b done.
Regards,
Philip

Good luck!! I just bought one over the counter while I was there and gave it to my guide. Cost $300. It was the real deal too. Worked like a friggin' dream.

Well the issue is not getting it to Africa its getting it back into US . Last trip they didn't look in our case or ask for 4457 form just walked on through

I own 4..... Love to take one. I've heard it is not Africa. But it's getting it back. Have your stamp paperwork handy.

You may want to read this and regardless of what anybody tells you contact the ATF and make certain you understand your rights and the law.

Note the second paragraph below is for TEMPORARY export.

Approval must be obtained by filing with Form DSP-73. No ATF approval is required for a temporary exportation. For more detailed information, see State Department regulations in 22 CFR 123.5.

Called the ATF and they directed me to US Customs as they would be inspecting upon re entry. As I am not exporting and leaving

I would suggest that you get the name of every person that you talk to and write down what they say. Odds are you will get the run around and possibly finally get the answer that you want to hear. Now weather it is correct or not will be the question. In my opinion it just isn't worth the hassle to take one out and then try and bring it back into the US.

If it was me I would just pull the suppressors off of the rifle or rifles and not worry about them and go enjoy your hunt. If you want to shoot a rifle with a suppressor on it talk to your outfitter, I am sure that they have access to one that you can use.

Ok US Customs said all you need is form 4457 fill out for suppressor and copies of paperwork prove you are legal to posses.

I would give serious thought to following Mikes advice because unless you have it in writing and even if you do you could still be prosecuted if Customs gave you bad advice. I have never seen a public official suffer for their mistakes

I would follow the law, it's not worth the headache otherwise. If it was a different president and a different time I wouldn't worry. All it takes is one person not on your side to have a nightmare experience.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
