Welcome to AH, Hans.

Great trophy !

A 44 inch bull is a true trophy of a lifetime! Even a 44 inch cow is huge.

Hans, are you going to leave it at a picture?

I've been interested in Coenraad Vermaak Safaris for a while, and would love to hear more about the hunt!

Unfortunately i wasn't the PH on this safari, CVS PH Clive Curtis was so i don't know the details of what took place, other than they were after another bull that Clive judged to be +_40"(superb bull), then they saw this gemsbok and he stood out like a sore thumb. The lucky hunter made a great shot. As we all know, often with really large trophies its all about being at the right place at the right time, monsters like this one don't come around often. This particular area (Our Kalahari Concession which spans over 200000 acres continuous) is quite phenomenal for Gemsbok and we are fortunate to focus on hunting mature / old bulls of fine quality. Very low quota compared to estimated population so we do "ring the bell" quite often and the limited hunting we do here has zero impact on the population dynamics or gene pool. Sustainable utilisation at its best. Thanks for all the great comments and warm welcome to the AH. I am not much of an internet guy but this is fun. Happy Hunting.

Have a look af our latest post on the biggest roan i ever guided on!

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,
