:)Folks I just got back from South Arfica and Hunted with my Ruger#1 chambered in 300 Win Mag. Although I also took my Marlin 45-70 Gov for brush areas my son and I used the Ruger exclusively. We each shot five plains game animals and couldn't have been happier with the 300. I used Winchester Supreme XP 3 Silver Tips and dropped everything. My Kudu went eight yards and fell over. My Ph Hennie du Toit with African Sky guided us both and gave us the tips on where to shot the various animals. While the lead retention on the 180 grain silver tips was poor the end result was what we were looking for. Should get my trophies in about eight months if all goes well. My friends at deer camp always kidded my about being over gunned but in Africa the Ruger was great.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on a sucessful hunt. Great that the rifle/ammo combo worked for you. Picutures please, (not to put to fine of a point on it)....:draught:

Was not well informed on picture posts back when I first shared this. That is the 300 win mag my son is holding!

First animal either of us took in Africa was my son’s blue Wildebeest. Look at the smile on his face.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
