I am going to Namibia this summer for a kudu and gemsbuck hunt. I want to take my own rifle as i feel more comfortable using a gun I know well And am well practiced with. I plan on touring Namibia before or after my hunt. I am wondering if there is any options to store my rifle in Windhoek or the airport while I tour the country?

There is a really nice sporting goods store in Windhoek. My PH calls it the agricultural center, but it has a bunch of guns, clothes, ammo, reloading supplies etc. sorry I don’t know the name, but I bet they would hold it for a fee.

We did a similar trip in 21 we just kept our Guns with us. Everywhere we stayed hotel, lodge, etc had firearm storage area. Even hotels in Windhoek.

Ask your PH if you can leave it with him. Assuming that stopping by at his place to pick it up isn’t too far out of your way.

You can take it with you or ask your PH for options. I know Riflepermits.com has a service in RSA like this.

I left mine with Trophaendienste in Windhoek last year, in their vault, when we went to a private game reserve following our hunt. We then picked it up on the way back to the airport.

Doing the same ourselves this year. Rosenthals is another big gun shop in Windhoek in Auas Valley Mall if I remember correctly.

Both Trophaedienste and Rosenthal are good suggestions, the former are between Windhoek and the airport though..

I spoke to our PH in Namibia this afternoon. He said the police in the airport will store them for you. That’s where you fill out your temporary import form.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
