Nice Waterbuck from Safari last week

Took this nice waterbuck on safari last week. PH said it was the largest he had ever seen.

A trophy is a trophy and you have a nice one...way to go...

The PH had one rule. Don't measure until the hunt is over. Reason for the rule is all of the bad luck he had one time with some guys who practically measure the animal before it had passed.

That said since it was the end of the hunt he used his hands and we both believe it is over 28". I am having PHASA measure it before it comes back. My PH believes it will qualify for a gold medal.

I did not go to Africa to trophy hunt..just being able to experience what a safari was all about was a trophy in it's self to me. I took some really nice animals not all book quality but 3 or 4 of them may make some level of status. Now it is in my blood and I wish I could go back next week! Thanks for the comment's guys. This wasn't with Ibamba Safaris in Limpopo was it? I just returned from hunting with them last week, and we watched what our PH said was the biggest waterbuck he'd seen kill a smaller waterbuck just for walking in front of him. We all watched while eating our lunch. It was surreal. The big buck just lurched forward and gored the little guy. We weren't hunting waterbuck, but I tell you the ranch owner wanted that waterbuck out of there real bad after witnessing that. I believe it was the very next day that some other hunters came in there to hunt it, but we never heard anything.

No I took this over around the Harrissmith area on private land.

My biggest Waterbuck a 26.4", that is really a nice bull, I have seen a 32" WOW!
