Hunting trucks

OK. A lot of us just spent a great time on another thread about our favorite tractors. (great thread....keep it going).

I can't help but think a lot of us have a favorite hunting truck. I spent my first week in Africa getting bounced around in a little Toyota diesel. Great Truck that did its job well.

I grew up on a farm in Minnesota in the 1960's into the 1970's. Our hunting truck was the farm truck we used the other 360 days or so a year. A 1966 Chevrolet 3/4 ton with a 292 6 cylinder and part time 4-wheel drive. You needed a pair of pliers to lock in the hubs. No big deal, we all wore pliers from the time we started wearing pants.

I love this truck and it has hauled many deer out of the woods for us. My dad gave it to me and I gave it to my son. Here he is on the first hunt he could legally drive it. We still take it out for old times sake.

LOL my first hunting truck wasn't a truck, it was an AMC Javelin. My first hunting truck was a 2WD Chevy C10 short bed. My latest hunting truck is a 2011 4x4 Ford Ranger.

My current hunting/fishing rig. 2015 TRD OR DC with Super Pacific wedge camper. 10k Warn, lifted, sliders, aluminum skids, etc, etc. So far it is working well. Beats the daylights out of my 1968 CJ5!

Mine is a 2019 Ford Raptor. The extra travel in the suspension is a big plus.

We don't hunt from trucks as it's illegal where I reside (and unsporting.) In Africa, most all hunting vehicles today are Toyota or Nissan straight diesel or turbo diesels (both excellent.) The former diesel land rovers are virtually a thing of the past. I drive a dual turbo V8 diesel Nissan, but it simply does a lot of farm work and carries hunting gear here and there. That said, I've seen friends in TX beat the living S out of the original (pre-bait and switch to twin turbo V6 for even higher price LMAO) 7L gas engine Ford Raptors, driving through brush and cacti. I asked one guy why he did that and his response was "I'll (my employer will) just buy another one!" It didn't make $en$e. LOL Peter Capstick explained the importance of "hunting vehicles" in an old video. Not often used in the actual hunt outside S. Africa. Handicapped or nearly blind people are allowed permits to hunt from vehicles where I live. I might take them up at age 80...

My dad had a '96 Dodge with a big old Cummins 6 cyl. The pistons were the size of coffee cans. It got 20 mpg.

I have no hunting rig per se. My PU is just transportation that has to be reliable, transport people, haul materials in the bed or in a trailer and negotiate deep snow during the winter. Even my 4 wheeler is simply to get around my property. I use a pair of size 12s for hunting. Current PU is the last of the steel body models- a 2104 F150 with 3.5 Ecoboost in Fx4 package. I am sold on the Fx4 set up. It pushed snow with the front bumper a few times this winter to get to my house.

All I've had the the last 21 years is my 02 f150. It's served me pretty well.

It hasn't been on the road for 15 years now but as of yesterday due to my uncles passing I've acquired his 68 rover to work on.

I have relied on a 2018 Tundra to get me and my crew to camp several times a year. It has hauled up people and things on the 1900km trek multiple times a year, bumped down logging roads, and endured abuse. I gave it a slight lift and fixed the rear leaf springs after towing that tractor up there - yep, we underestimated the weight of that old tractor :d overloaded, but she did great!

My 1995 F-250 is my everyday truck. 7.3 power stroke, I put the solid axle in the front. No it’s no the same color and I don’t care. It gets used for everything, farming, hunting, camping, and hauling about 40-50 loads of firewood every winter.
