Out of curiosity....Do African countries have hunting seasons as here in the U.S.?

Various outfitters I've talked with; the various posts on AH; seems hunting in Africa is allowed year round of all game animals.

Depending on outfitter/location of hunt, "peek season" can be either June-July or July-August.

KZN hunting season is from 1 June untill 31 August. This will be for open (unfenced) farms. To hunt these farms you require written permision from the land owner, a valid hunting licence and/or a permit issued by KZN-wildlife depending on what you would like to hunt (Common Reedbuck being one). You will then be allowed to hunt between sunrise and sunset.

Registered game farms may apply for a exemption permit that will allow them to hunt eiter limited months outside of the official hunting season or all of the months of the year.
This exemption can however also be obtained by free range farms.

Should excotic animals may be hunted (for example Fallow Deer) throughout the year and does the official hunting season not apply - written concent from the farm owner and a general hunting license is all you require.

I will admit that this is how I understand it and may I be corrected.

Those are the basics throughout South Africa. Each province has its own laws and species rules.

Similar rules in other southern African countries as well

Thanks to all for the info.

If I have it right:
Open land and unexempted farms abide by hunting season dates, whereas exempted farms can legally be hunted year round(?).

That’s it

Maybe it’s also dependent upon the wet and dry seasons if applicable.
I the Northern Territory the hunt g season for buffalo is all year BUT, the wet season makes it virtually impossible to get around without a swamp boat.
Then comes the dry when you wont want to droo a lit match vis the fire will outrun you.
I suspect that many hunting seasons are based around the animals migration, breeding season , and weather.
And, who really wants to go hunting in the middle of summer.

Last year I hunted in RSA's springtime and compared to fall, the hunting sucked. There's a reason hunting in the U.S. is in the fall and I believe it's the same in RSA. YMMV.

South Africa do not have a hunting season . On all properties with exemption or Certificate of adequate enclosure can hunt year round .
Some outfitters do hunt year round . The bussier hunting season is from beginning of April whichbis oyr fall to mid October when most of summer rainfall areas the rains start.

Some animals mifht be easier or more difficult at different times but there is no defimate better ot worse time !

The best time is ......AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !!!!

@SafariA
How do you apply for the exemption? Nature conservation as with the CAE? As the areas where I mostly hunt don’t have an exemption and has to follow the Provincial seasons and I would be very happy to get an exemption to hunt those areas year around.
Of course they are non game fenced areas in the Eastern Cape, so what are the chances for an exemption?

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure which areas you hunt . Wxemption can only be given to areas with adequate fencing . You can hunt year round on most open areas too it is just the procedures that differ out of the regular hunting season for open areas. These are most cases from May 1 to either July 31 or Aug 31.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. The fences are far from being adequate, so I guess no go.
I hunt mostly cattle, dairy and sheep farm areas in the mountains of the EC.

Appreciate the quick comeback.

I will follow up on procedures in EC . But normally it is a license in hunting season and a permit rest of year . Little more paperwork and a little more expensive. Your Outfitter should be knowledgeable about this . But I will reply ASAP on other info

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
