I got a chance to make it to the lease Sunday night to hunt Monday and Tuesday. Checking game cameras showed the pig in picture 2 running deer off and being an ass so I decided he needed shot in the face for not getting along.
This buck walked out while I was waiting for Mr. Personality to make his nightly appearance. He was to pretty and fat to pass up on and I needed to try out the 9.3x62 Ruger African. I’m impressed with it! I took a couple pictures and as I was dragging the buck to the Sendero I heard the pig at the feeder. I got a 60-70 yard running shot on him which ruined his days of bullying the deer! Shot the bobcat off the gut and scraps of the buck Tuesday night. Sure beat the hell right out of being at work!
Cheers,
Cody

Cody, an impressive two day hunt for sure!

We should all have a day like that one. Congrats!

Great hunt Cody, wonder what Ruger African is coming out this year?

Shot the 6.5 X 55 Hawkeye African three times since season opened. Santa brought an ATN 3-14 night vision scope so the pigs and coyotes are really gonna pay next year.

Daughter got her first buck earlier in the week, pretty river bottom buck. Found a good spot on a newly mowed pasture with winter weeds the deer were really pounding, put out the pop up blind and 2nd sit it happened. Saw about 30 does before the buck finally worked his way out.

My 11 year old got his first deer tonight! He did a great job, as this deer played around running into our field and going back to the brush without giving us a shot for almost an hour. Every time he disappeared, Henry’s heart rate would go up 10 or 15 points. He finally came into 100 yards and stopped chasing for a few too many seconds. Henry put him straight down with a perfect shot! 20 inch spread- 8 points. Bested me and his older brother’s first deer by a lot!

This year has been a different rifle season in Kentucky. Very few doe seen. The oak mast is poor this year. I've been on a ladder stand for four days and have seen 3 whitetails, compared to last season when 10+ deer per day. Got my buck opening morning.

That's a excellent buck! Congratulations for your son for his patience. What is the rifle and cartridge he used?

It’s an old Remington 243 Win. with a Leupold VX1 I’ve had for years. It’s my favorite coyote rifle. We swapped my 58gr Vmax for some 100gr Norma Oryx. He was consistently hitting a 3” metal dinger at 100 yards and hit this buck perfectly at that distance.

I have been mostly culling myself and with my family over Thanksgiving. My niece took her first Turkey and buck deer so that was fun. Here is a management buck I took last week. 5 year old 8 pointers have to go.
Happy hunting!

Thank you @MAdcox. I've got an older ADL that will be made youth compatible with a more deer useful cartridge over its current chamber. What a great first buck your son got!

I killed this big Texoma 12 on our lease in Seymour opening day. I used my Ruger African in 9.3x62 with Norma factory ammo.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
