Hodgdon H4350

I use H4350 in my 375 & .270win

Is this powder relevant for reloading .375 H&H and 30.06?

RWP

Looking in the Hornady 9th Edition R Manual Reloading H4350 is only recommended for use with 190 and 220 grain bullets for 30-06.

IMR 4350 on the other hand is recommended for a much more variety of 30-06 bullet weights.

What bullet and velocity are you trying to achieve? H4350 is an excellent powder and extremely temp stable and probably will work, but other powders may perform better with certain bullets and to achieve max velocities.

H4350 is suitable for both 375 H&H and 30.06
In my copy of Hornady's 9th edition Reloading Manual it is listed for bullets 150-155 gn, 165-168 gn, 190 gn and 220 gn. It is NOT listed for 178-180 gn bullets.
I don't use it much for 375 H&H but use some in 30.06 loadings. I find it a bit "juicier" than IMR4350 and sometimes takes a bit of work to discover the best load, but when found accuracy is quite good.

An excellent powder for both. Just because a powder/cartridge/bullet combination is not listed in a certain publication means very little. The number of all permutations is staggering and data publications obviously have to limit the parameters of data published because of budget, time and space. The more data references used, the better...

I will have to go through the listing in my Hornady Manual again as I didn't see H4350 listed for any other bullets but the 190 and 220 grains and make a correction to my earlier post if these other bullets are listed for use with H4350. I did see IMR4350 powder recommended for other bullets.

I've used H4350 with a 180-grain cup-n-core and bonded bullet from my .30-06 since forever. Extraordinarily consistent with loads just over 2,700 fps MV from a 24" barrel.

I also use H4350 with a 300-grain bonded bullet to target 2,450 fps MV from my 24" .375 H&H barrel.

If you want the same MVs and trajectories from both .30-06 & .375 H&H, then match the 180 grain .30-06 load with a 270 grain bullet out of the .375 H&H. You'll need to use a touch faster propellant than H4350 such as Varget.

Do check the Hodgdon Reloading website for related load data.

Correction to my thread as @30.06king has pointed out H4350 is recommended for the bullet weights 150, 155,165 and 168 for use in the 30-06 Springfield, but Not for Use in bullet grain weights 150, 155, and 178 in the M1 Garand.

I try to be as accurate as possible when offering information this was an error due to my not looking at the proper 30-06 rifle data and not initially seeing H4350 powder load data for 165 and 168 grain bullet weights when I went back to confirm my information before hitting the post button.

Nice catch and thanks for correcting my misinformation.

Seems H4350 is more available than IMR.
Trying to find some powder that’s available.

Thanks

H-4350 with 180 gr A-Fs was my 30-06 plains game load in 2021.
2,757 fps at 59.5*F (22" Tikka). Very happy with results.

I also use it for my 150 Hornady FMJBT practice load at 2,789 fps. Just need to dial up 1.2 MOA for the same trajectory as the 180s.

I forgot to add to my previous post that I've found H4350, in both of those cartridges and bullet weights, to perform most consistently and accurately when the load density was hovering right at ~90%. Much beyond ~94% the consistency would lessen. Also, if load density was below 85% I'd encounter the same issue.

H4350 will work a ton of things, it might not be the best in any situation, but it can cover a very wide range.
I use it in 30-06, 7x57, 375, 416 Rigby, 450/400 and others. I'm also not squeezing loads looking for every ounce. You can do that because you like to but I spend more time working on shooting from field positions than worrying about velocity or a touch more accuracy. I find a load below max that feeds well and then practice. I don't do a lot of experimentation. H4350 is one of my go to powders for this. H1000 and H4895 are two others in that category that cover several calibers for me.

I use H4350 in a 30-06 with 165 grain bullets and in a 6.5 Creedmoor with 140 grain bullets. The worst thing about H4350 now is the price. I paid almost $50.00 a pound last fall and I think the price is around $60.00 a pound now.

I have used lots of powders over the years. Tried many combinations for the 30/06. For temp stability, accuracy and ease of use, H4350 is my go to powder. It works great with 150, 168, 180, 200 grain pills.

For whatever reason I've not had luck with H4350 in any of the calibers I've tried it in. It is supposed to be quite close to IMR4350. The IMR version works very well in a .30-06, 7mm and my .375HH. Why the H4350 doesn't is likely just my rifles are finicky about it would be my guess.

I say this not to knock on Hodgdon. If I combine IMR4350 with Hodgdon's Varget and H4831, I can cover most of the rifles in my cabinet, add H4895 for 250gr .375 loads. So I'm a fan of Hodgdon even if the H4350 doesn't work for me.

I would suggest to the OP to go to Hodgdon's reloading website. Choose .30-06 for caliber and H4350 as powder. Leave bullet weight unselected. Once you hit the get loads button, it will list out a number of loads of many bullet weights.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
