Growing up in Alaska there was only one place you ever dreamed of going that could top your backyard and that's Africa. I finally went last month and now I'm hooked (no surprise). Already planning my 2nd trip for later this year. This site has been a great resource so I wanted to stop just browsing and give a little back.

I chose South Africa for my first hunt to "ease" into it. Based on recommendations from friends and forums on this site I hunted with Zirk Roeloffse, formerly of African Sky. Couldn't be happier. Everything was seamless from arrival at the airport to drop off of my trophies. First class all around and was fortunate to avoid any and all pitfalls I've read about here. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to share their experiences...it's a tremendous help.

Apologies for being off the forum and not responding for over a year to the posts here. Long story short my family, and me personally, have run into one health issue after another that has kept all hobbies, free time, thoughts of anything else, etc on the back burner. Everyone is doing well now and life is getting back to whatever you call normal. I’ve even been able to plan another trip to Africa this August in the Limpopo area. Focusing on Roan and Buffalo.

I’m posting more photos from my last trip. As I mentioned before I hunted with Zirk Roeloffse. We traveled about 3.5 hours south of Johannesburg to Witkop Safaris. The lodging, food, hospitality and friendliness of the staff was excellent and equal to or better than any similar hunting camp I’ve ever been in (hard to call this place a camp given the high quality accommodations). My cousin and I could not have been happier.

Most importantly the hunting was amazing. You see a lot of game in Alaska but you can go years without seeing an upper class trophy and it seems like the big one is always over the next ridge. Here the game was plentiful so you could spot the herd, glass for awhile to see if there was one you wanted to hunt, then plan with your PH the best approach. The terrain gives plenty of cover and escape routes for the animals so I never felt the outcome was assured which was my biggest fear going to Africa...for me the trophy is the hunt itself and not what the tape says (I still haven’t measured a single trophy).

We hunted for 7 days and between the two of us we were lucky enough to take a variety of game from Impala to Buffalo. I’ll wrap this up now as it is already a long post. Again, apologies for not responding to questions here much sooner.

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)

Forgive me if this is the incorrect area, I signed up to this forum just now because I wanted to be on the list to purchase a copy of your autobiography. Please feel free to pass my information along to whomever is selling. Thank you so much. I look forward to it!
I like the Tillie in my picture. They are supposed to fit loose (2 fingers inside hat band), have mesh for cooling, and hold their shape after washing.
