Quite a tale! Lucky guy.

I'm aware of several cases where a grizzly knocked someone down, left and then returned to do more damage after the victim moved. Basically in these cases the bear is attacking what it sees at a threat. Once the threat appears over the bear will back off. But if you sdo tart moving around the bear will think it needs to whack you a few more times to keep you in your place.

So the moral of the story is if you "play dead" and survive a bear attack, do NOT start moving too quickly. There is a very good chance the bear is still nearby. Leave well enough alone and give the bear time to leave if you can.

He is a lucky dude

A number of years ago I was hunting with a man named Wally Cash. Same thing. Bear knocked him down and chewed on him a bit. Then pulled back. When he started to move around she came back and chewed on him some more. Luckily we were able to get a life flight helicopter in to get him out.
Later the same day I was chased by the same bear, but luckily I was on horseback........ Still remember the look of that bear as she came for us.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….
