Hunted
South Africa, Texas, Alaska - hey, they count. Trust me!
And I am now, officially, T-Minus about 2 months from launching back to my favorite home away from home...Leopards Valley Safaris with Dave & Nikki for my 3rd Safari.

On my 50th birthday. (*well, close enough, June 23rd vs. July 28th flight to SA)

Now, how awesome is my beloved wife who sent me a link to a special Sable hunt and told me "you need to go".

With a special second comment "and make sure you have fun".

I love that woman.

Hey, that is cool! Your wife is pretty awesome! Mine made sure I stuck to the plan to go later this year when things were looking too hard. They’re treasures. Enjoy your hunt! Heard good things about Dave.

Best of luck and we look forward to the report!

Good luck, and enjoy!

Great present from a wonderful spouse! Have fun and I look forward to reading all about it !

Awesome! Looking forward to your report!

Your rifles look very interesting, too! What are they?

For my wife it's a Merkel K3 Stutzen in 7x57r, topped with a VX6 1-6.

For me it's a Merkel K1 in 7mm RM, topped currently with a VX3 2.5-8 (but in that pic it was an FX3 6x42).

The first safari we did was back in 2012 and I carried a 10# pre-64 M70 in 300 H&H. After that trip I decided to cut the weight way, way back with the Merkel's weighing in at 6.5# scoped. They are an absolute joy to carry and my experience taught me that animals don't really stick around for speedy follow up shots once the lead starts flying. :)

What makes this trip rather interesting is that I may not be taking my own rifle this time but rather hunt with Craig's (*my 3rd time PH there). It's a little short notice and I may not be able to get the rifle permits aligned quickly enough.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
