Delta ban on Trophies

Just another big corporation using their money and clout to control politics. These people actually run the country the president and congress are just pawns

Sigh. That sounds like a political slogan. That is not what is going on here. In this case, and in most of these reactionary corporate decisions, they are simply reacting to the twitter mob and surrounding publicity. The appointed officers have enough trouble trying to run Delta and keep it profitable without running the country. They have exactly one goal in mind - that is to keep share holders happy. They are taking these actions because they believe it insulates them and most importantly - their share holders - against the mob. Now if one of you happens to own ten thousand shares of Delta stock, then you are in position to apply pressure. But dig deeper than simply repeating a right or left wing nut anti-corporation slogan.

I like the notion of the hunting/shooting industry collaborating on a positive hunting publicity campaign. A great model is the cattle industry "Beef - It's what's for dinner" effort of 15 or 20 years ago. It essentially inoculated them from the budding vegan crowd for more than a decade. "Hunting - the real conservation movement" or "Hunters - the real conservationists" - hell I don't know - wasn't in PR. But something like that on Nar Geo etc couldn't hurt.

why do you only question those two , johnny ,
you should be asking why any legal hunting trophy would be banned ......
Your right bluey I didn't mean it that way. Of course I'm in complete agreement with you.

So right my friend. I've been saying this for a while. Do we have someone here who has the clout to bring this forward?

Well, those SOBs at Delta did indeed refuse to carry my shipment today because it had Lions and a Buffalo. Talk about being (literally) a day late...

My shipping company wrote me early this morning to let me know about Delta's refusal and to tell me that they were working on a few alternatives. Man, I can't get that shipment to the US fast enough. This is really nerve wracking. I expedited my hunt from this year to last October because I was worried about Lion imports and now I am this close but can not get my crate here. I still share pretty strong concern that the USFW will use this "crisis" as an excuse to make an arbitrary decision to stop lion imports like they did elephant from Tanzania and Zimbabwe last year. So frustrating....
Good luck brother, keep us in the loop

I think that is exactly what is going on. Delta upper management are anti trophy hunting and are using the company to promote their agenda. Most of the people in the US would not even think about airlines flying home hunting trophies. Maybe they ought to stop serving meat in their terrible meals. I cannot believe how someone could sit done and eat a steak and then be against trophy hunting. I raise cattle and I know how it is raised from birth to slaughter and I will tell you a game animal has a better life. Most of these idiots do not know where their food comes from. Hamburger grow on trees.

All we need is 100 million to buy a 777LR, 4 pilots, 20 or so flight attendants, ground crew and capital for fuel and wages. We can fly 250 hunters to joberg every other day, return hunters the other way, and fly trophies in the cargo hold. Any volunteers? Maybe the Donald will let us use his private plane for starters.

I won't argue with you. Believe what you want to believe. But it is not true. And the unfortunate thing is that believing that sort of propaganda deflects us from the real pressure points. It also enlists you in yet another mob believing corporations are evil - another mob furthering a politician's or party's particular goals. I actually served as an appointed officer in a CA-based corporation which did 30 bill in sales annually for the last twelve years. In other words, a Lot of tree huggers. Trust me, no one gets up in the morning wondering how to use the corporation to further a political agenda. It is all about bottom line. We need to be smart enough to influence that bottom line.

LOl. Need two planes. They go in maintenance periodically.

Most of the big Corporations here in the USA will always cater to the mainstream PC crowd. They want to leave the door open in case they ever need corporate welfare from the Fed's.

Someone at Delta is doing it.

I think a better idea would be to find a seedling airline company and have the hunting community fund it so that the airline and the sporting community will be tightly tied.

The corporate response goes like this: an upper vice president asks the p. r. department for a risk assesment report on the potential risk of flying trophies. They fire off a report, he goes to the financial dept, figures out how much income received from flying the "big 5" and goes to his boss with both reports. They discuss at lunch or on the golf course, decide which group is going to be the least objectionable to lose, and out comes a decision. Now we need to be the ones that have the loudest voice in the room, for as long as possible. Having said that, my lion arrived 10 days ago by Delta, and cleared customs today. I must admit, I am a bit relieved. Still not flying any airline that won't take my cargo.

Someone could charter Some cargo planes, and build from there.

I believe Red Leg has the right of it. The corporate officers and board of directors of Delta have taken on the responsibility of running the corporation and making the shareholders money. And guarding their investments. And minimizing their risk. You might be surprised and even a little bit proud of how seriously many of these folks take that responsibility. Even to the point of putting their personal beliefs and motivations aside. Making decisions solely on what is best for the company and its shareholders. This is how successful companies operate.
If you all remember just a short time ago Delta held firm even though they were getting pressure from the anti's just like SAA and others. Trust me, this has been a very well orchestrated operation and the airlines have been but one cog in the giant wheel. Delta has actually been a lot more on our side and resistant to the pressure being brought to bear than many others.
Now, before you go all Carrie Underwood on me and brand me a traitor to the cause, I aint happy about it either! But we need to take our own advice and be smart and pragmatic about things.
Delta will hear from me too. What they will hear is how disappointing it is to learn that my airline of choice, the one I fly whenever I can because of the service and quality I receive, has been caught in the middle of an unfair, disgusting, and misguided war of ideologies waged by a few radicals bent on manipulating the masses to their own short sighted ends. I sincerely hope that in the very near future when this facebook tempest in a teapot passes and america's interest has shifted back to the Cardashians that Delta will not forsake their millions of loyal customers and do the right thing by supporting true conservation and conservationists. The sportsmen and women who are the true force making a difference against poaching and safeguarding the future of animals all over the globe.
The message Delta needs to hear is, you stand by us and we'll stand by you. Don't believe for a moment that Delta doesn't know it's market segments. They do. Intimately. No company throws away a market lightly. Delta doesn't want to lose sportsmen's dollars, it just may seem like the least bad option available to them right now.

Like I said before the anti's don't necessarily have to ban hunting, all they have to do is make economical and logistically impossible for us to have a good time because of all the regulations and BS. And I hate BS, which is what Delta did here. Yes, it was a business decision, but a sad day for us hunters.

+1 You sure said that better than I did.
