Hi,
What have you run into?
Wife was checking on what we were allowed for checked baggage and found out the dimension limitation is 62" of W+D+L on South African Air.
And 62"-80" is a $100 charge -- each way I think.
My new Plano case is 76".
So I pay the $200 or get a different case.
I could get a Tactical case and separate the stock and action.

I leave in 10 days so I don't have much time to correct.
(We're flying JetBlue, SAA going and SAA, Delta returning, From Florida to South Africa.)

thanks

I never had an issue or baggage fees (beyond firearms handling) with my
im3300 Double Rifle case

EXTERIOR (L x W x D)
53.8" x 16.5" x 6.7" (136.6 x 41.9 x 17 cm)

I have not had any problems with "sporting equipment" being oversize. Perhaps some with more knowledge will chime in. Bruce

My rifle case is also oversize and in 7 trips over I have never been charged for it. I think they are more concerned about weight than size unless its ridiculous. I notice this last trip that lots of morons trying to get on the planes with 2-3 pcs of carry on were being made to check some pcs as luggage and not allowed to take it on the plane. To counter that however, one small Asian fellow came on one flight with a carry on bag that was at least twice the allowed size and needed me to stow it in the overhead bins because he was too small and weak to do it himself! It nearly took up a whole bin by itself! I asked him how he ever got on the plane with such outsized carry on. He just laughed. Go figure.

I called SAA and talked to a live person, (imagine that).
He said the dimension was not an issue as along as it was designed for firearms.

So, I think the dimension limits are for suitcases --- like spike t. said.
thanks all

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
