    1903 Mannlicher Help

The problem in the US is none of the better gunsmiths will work on them as they are all but impossible to make feed once they jam up and most are complete ruined once the are worked on. I ve been down that road twice with oh yeah I can fix it!!

    9.3x62mm vs. .375 H&H Mag

Close but no ceegar, but it,ll do for buff or even an elephant in a pinch.. Long live the 9,3x62.

    300 H&H my new favorite

A long time favorite of mine, shot about everything with it..Knowing how to load it voids the brass stretching some claim..

    Eland with a .30-06?

Ive shot a number of Eland and they succumb to most mid calibers, but on occasion they can be very hard to kill like most animals of great size. Id recommend a 9,3 x 62 ,338 Win mg..I recall shooting a big Eland 5 times, all lung shots wirh a 375 H&H and he ran a quarter of a mile. I was with...

What Have You Killed with the 7x57

culled buffalo with a 7x57 some years ago. used it on all the PG, observed it used on an elephant, its comparable to a 30-06,308,270 etc. no magic other than the press! one of my favorite calibers as its light and can be handloaded to equal the above calibers with less recoil.. I like the 130...

30-06 Rifle for Plains Game - How Big?

After 40 years of hunting Africa Ive found there is little difference between the 308,30-06 and the 300s up to 400 yards. for buff and DG the 9,ex62,375 and 40 calibers are advisable. Lot of over thinking in these posts..

    2 Gun Combo

Lets dont over think this question but depends on where you hunt, in the US a 30-06. in Africa the 30-06 and a 416 Rem..If your hunting Africa in Tanzania never carry a too light rifle you likely cannot kill a rogue elephant, buffalo, Lion or hippo that shows up uninvited with a wire snare on...

.270 vs 7*57 Which is the best???

Better? for what, I have both, not much different except the 270 is more powerful, shoots flatter , brass and bullets are easier to find, even in Africa and the North Pole end of story, which one is newer Id be suspicious of a rifle with no blue left..I like both calibers along with a 30-06...

    9.3x57

What I like about the 9,3s iis that most any bullet performs on game. I ve used most all of them over the last 70 or so years and the PPUs seem to work as well as any bullet..I suppose thats because all the 9,3 are about equal in velocity..

    7x64 cartridge/rifle clue me up

the 308, 280, 7x57, 270, 708 30-06 and others are all about equal but there is a big difference in todays availability of components powder. primers, brass and bullets. That, would be my main concern and the 308 or 30-06 wins on that count, How can one beat the 7x57 Ive shot Bison and cull...

    More thoughts on 9.3x64

I thought the 9.3x64 was a better caliber than the 9,3x62 until I shot across the chronograph and found I only got 100 to 150 fps advantage, all things equal, and more felt recoil it seemed off the bench..Also had my 64 loaded too hot and gave me trouble on safari temps,,.Both are good calibers...

    9.3x62mm vs. .375 H&H Mag

I agree Bob, been preaching that since about 1954, when I traded a saddle and my bike for a JP Sauer and sons 9,3x62, had to make ammo from milsurp brass, a poor practice but it got me by.. I load my 9.3x62 at 2500 fps with a 286 and my 375 at 2500 with a 300 gr bullet, both have worked for...

Don't drop the slide on an empty chamber

If a slide can take 40,000 PSI slamming it around I doubt dropping it will hurt anything, I suspect many old military 1911 have slammed a thousand times??
