MY JP SAuer and Son 30-06 has a Lyman mod 35 receiver combined with the bolt release, Those sights fetch major money..I saw one sell for $750 at qun show along with a Leupold Alaskan for $950..wow

    9.3x62mm vs. .375 H&H Mag

Cutting thrugh the chafe, I doubt if anyone can tell the difference in killing effect between a 375 H&H and a 9,3x62, Ive used both a good deal, they worked the same as any African PH will tell you or so it seemed to me..the rest is just in your mind..

One gun or two? On safari

Back in the day when I spent 30 to 60 days in various camps, I took my 404 or 416 and even a 9,3x62 or 375 H&H, they all worked just fine for PG and DG, a big bore with tough bullets kept off the heavy bones does not ruin much meat, and sometimes due to tough jackets the game will make a long...

Pulling and replacing bullets - what needs to be done?

I pull the pin in my RCBS die and then neck size id needed, on rare occasions it's not required. Whatever you do run the case through the chamber before you do them all is good advise.

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

Interlocks are not bonded, they are interlocked by the jacket into the lead and are a decent bullet, but not generally considered a premium or super premium bullet. I like them for most hunting.

Need help, Load discrepancy Swift vs Hodgdon

Not to mention that the old service milsurp 4831 will give highest velocity at much less pressure than anythinh on todays market, the stuff Jack O'Conner shot 63 gr. in his 270. I have about 20 or so of that good stuff. left over from a SS 150 lb keg I bought 40 years ago and its still fresh and...

    165 or 180 grain bullet for 3006

I prefer the 150 for deer and such, and the 180s for larger stuff and I really like the 200 gr Accubond or partition for elk and for use in Africa. I see the 165 as neither fish nor fowl but I can push a 180 at the same velocity and see no reason for its use for my part..

    9.3X64 load data

I played with both some years ago and I got about 100 to a 150 fps advantage depending on the load, with most loads at max, with both calibers, and could not tell any difference on a Cape Buffalo or Idaho elk. I opted for the great 9.3x62 as to accuracy it seemed, less felt recoil, and...

    .35 Whelen & CFE223 - magnum or standard primer?

I know what the experts say, but be damned if i can tell any difference between the two, My chrono graph shows about 100 fps or less in extreme cases and little or no differeccd in POI in most cases but that varies as to caliber..Over all I get better accuracy with my favorite primer the FC210...

404 jeff woodleigh bullets expansion velocity?

I have shot a number of buffalo with both the 450-400 double at 2125 fps, and I've always loaded my 404s at 2400 fps, with 93 grs of H4831. Both calibers worked quite well with Woodleigh bullets. I also field tested Geoff's 450 gr 404 RN and PPs and its a favorite bullet of mine in the 404...

    338 Winchester Magnum

Great caliber, due to circumstance my PH said use the 338 with a scope and shoot through that hole in the bush, I did and the bull ran 75 yards and stopped, standing straddle legged spewing blood out nose, and ran again as I approached, and I rolled him in a summersault with my 450-400 I've...

    New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

I have the African still in the box, but passed the test with a 5 shot group in 9,3x62, and back in the box, My right hand and age is getting worse at handleing recoil, so I will probably put it on the classifieds, Its a classic..Im having a REm 721 rebored to a whelen, hope it works but I can...

    New "classic" .318 Westley Richards?

I recently sold my original 318 WR as they are out of sight on the market..I found out if you take the nostalgia out of the scenario and load 250 gr bullets in our old 30-06 you gotta 318 WR with more penetration it seems! oh well it is what it is! :)

    9.3x62mm vs. .375 H&H Mag

I've shot a lot of buffalo with a 375 and a 9,3x62 and nobody could tell the difference in buffalo reaction between the two, both will break both shoulder's on a cape bull. and the 9,3x62 is a tad milder on the recoil end, and at my age that counts.

    Fill this Rifle Gap

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

Today I use whatever brass I can get and sometimes have to do without..Ive had good luck with Privi Partisan and its cheap by comparison and usually available..My go to powder is RL-17 and CFE223, I shoot mostly 250 and 286 gr. bullets, The 286Nosler partition and 250 Barnes rate high with me on...

    45-70 for dangerous game?

I wouldn't be happy to face a charge with 45-70. Ive been involved in 2,5 buffalo charges with big bores involved and my first thought was why do we not shoot a 600 NE..IMO the 45-70 is a good deer rifle and borderline elk rifle..DG rifles begin with the 9,3x62 and end with how one handles...

    Bullet choices for .404 Jeffery

Both work as designed so no need to overthink the result.. Back in the day not so long ago, most bullets failed from time to time but sometimes they failed an killed, the bullet boys listened and changed the game and todays bullets are the best ever. I have not had a real bullet failure in the last 60 years, but had many before that. The ony good...

    .35 Whelen & CFE223 - magnum or standard primer?

The 9,3x62 is to the 35 Whelen is about like damn is to cussing! the 62 is walking on the tail of a 375 and it shows on big game also..You have to load it to 55 to 60 PSI and there is no reason but BS to not do that if its a mod 70, rem 700, Ruger Hawkeye or 98 Mauser!!

    .35 Whelen & CFE223 - magnum or standard primer?

To the grand guiros ball powder always needs magnum primers and that is hooey std rifle primers in many cases works just fine with ball powders and is more accurate, Nothing is a given at the reloading bench or the 100 yard target..I prefer Fed 210 and 215 for no particular reason other than...

    Push Feed rifles..???

well in push feed if you are running to get a second shot at a wounded animal or just an escaping trophy and work the action to be ready the round will fall out in many cases and I've seen that happen more than a few times in my 40 plus years in the hunting biz. Do yourself a favor don't risk a...

    .375 H&H 300 grain Nosler Partition vs Swift A-Frames

I always got the impression that the Swift was too smooth in its perfect toad stool expansion whereas Nosler and Woodleigh's had ragged edges and more internal damage, and Nosler's were more likely to give an exit hole. 425 Westley Richards

I wouldn't want a wife or a 425 WR without lips, so I packed a 404 all over the dark continent! I did have a 425 WR that some geek rebarreled to a 458 Win with lips and it worked well indeed, but was overly heavy so I sold it..

    45-70 for dangerous game?

the 9,3x62 is the equal of 375 H&H, no one can tell the differnnce..The 45-70 is not a African caliber I would even consider, the 45-90 is borderline and not my choice. Of corse a 22 LR will kill about anything, but Id hold my fire and run..

Ideal expanding bullet for thin skinned game (416 Rigby)?

I've used enough solids in my 416 Rem on PG to see no reason to change and we can eat right up to the hole as Elmer used to say..but any buffalo designed bullet of 400 grs is tough enough to not over expand unless you hit a major bone and bone shards can be destructive sometimes...Big bores then...

Good decision you never know when you might bump into jumbo or his friends that have a wire snare on their leg and you don't have enough gun to deal with the situation. 30/06 165 grain

The 06 made its fame with a 180 gr bullet at 2700 fps and its worked for me with every bullet I've used and most of the worlds wild game. I see the 165 as neither fish nor fowl, not as fast and flat as the 150s to 300 plus yds nor as effective on large animals as the 180 with its massive...

    Old bullets = "fragile" ?

Ive not used old bullets after they got old, but I know this old bullets were not worth a damn to start with, back in the 50s failures were common with the exception of REM corelokts and later WIN PPs, the reason us old ranch raised kids learned to track so well :)
