As a young female wanting to become a PH would it make it slightly harder for me getting an apprenticeship and i would be moving from the uk to africa.

Yes i am a woman but i’m not exactly small and petite i am 5,8 or 5,9 weigh 12 stone and built like a brick house haha. I have hunted my whole life and always loved getting dirty, no not you’re average woman.

I only question, as female PH’s are not really heard of and being a PH is manly knows as a man’s job.

Good luck with your quest. It's an interesting question.
Follow your dreams.

Good luck! Maybe you could reach out to this female PH Danene van der Westhuyzen. I believe she also took a leadership roll in the NPHA at one point. But I could be mistaken.

To be brutally honest I think it will be harder. Not because woman don't make great PHs but I think just the general nature the work lends itself more to males.

Females also fall pregnant and take months off for that or leave the profession to raise kids.

Definitely not a PC correct answer but that's the way of life!!

But it shouldn't stop you chasing your dreams, there are many very skilled female PHs and I'm sure several outfitters etc that might be interested in taking a female apprentice onboard.

Don't give up, go for it!

i totally know what you mean, i mean it may also make women hunters more comfortable going on a hunt and stay where her surroundings include lots of men and no females (not in a bad way) where if their was a female it would maybe draw a few more female customers.

Agree with you there. And some outfitters know that some women prefer female PHs... so it's a market and opportunity to tap into. Good for you, the outfit and the client.

Google Natasha Illum Berg.
She is model female PH! Can be done. It is not easy, but can be.
Wish you luck.

The only way you'll find out is to give it a go. And if you don't, you'll look back and wonder what might been. I wish you all the very best.
Go for it. Women serve in all branches of the military in combat, aviation and naval roles. Ph isn't that much different. I've served with women and, believe me, they are capable.

I've hunted plainsgame with a female PH in Limpopo. I enjoyed it!

There a several female PH's around. I believe Patzy is still a PH with @spike.t at Takeri in Zambia?

There is a lady PH in Alaska that was 2008 SCI Professional Hunter of the year, Alisha "Mutts" Rosenbruch-Decker.

Don't give it a second more thought, go for it.

As mentioned previously, Danene at Aru in Namibia would be a great source of info, she is of the highest quality as a person.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
