Last year I got a .404 Jeffery custom from AHR on a CZ550 action. It’s a full custom, nice walnut, and a pop up aperture sight in the rear bridge. The feeding was tuned a bit for me by Ralf Martini so that it would feed well even with blunt large meplat bullets.

However, now I’ve picked up a Heym 88b double…. so realistically I don’t think I’ll be using the AHR even though it’s an absolutely awesome rifle.

There is a little wear in the finish of the scope bases under the rings, but otherwise it’s pretty much new. In the current market what would be a reasonable asking price if I sell it? I’ll attach some photos that Wayne at AHR took when it was being built.

I’m in Canada but can export easily to the USA or pretty much anywhere else if needed (private import and export is quite a simple process here).

I’m not sure yet about selling it, just trying to decide.

If it were mine I think I’d ask $7500 (USD) plus shipping. IMHO. I’d consider keeping it though! GLWS if you decide to!
You will take a little bit of a haircut on it. I would think 8k plus a little if you find the right guy. I can’t ever seem to find that guy. Does it have the “CZ 550” banner on the action? I have two of Wayne’s rifles without the banner and they look sooooo much more “custom” IMHO without it.

I could maybe see that but if so I would think it may take an auction venue to get that done IMO.

He did say it’s a full custom so I believe that means it’s AHR’s DGR model which from my understanding were/are built on in the white actions from CZ with aftermarket barrels. Or at the minimum rebarreled CZ actions

Yea sir. Correct on all fronts! The reason I asked the question is that the action is blued, and the bold handle was straightened/not blued. That tends to indicate to me that it was an existing action.

It’s still a cz, it would probably sell at 5500. There has been a plethora of really good stuff that has sold in the last year for around 8-10k, many based on gma actions that are 4500 in the white, many full custome Mauser a.

I thought GMA’s were around $3500 in the white? I think $5500 is low balling it for sure.

Regardless, I think you have a valid point to an extent but if you go by that logic you could use the same criticism on many rifles.

For instance, would you say a Griffin & Howe built on a military surplus Springfield action “still a Springfield”? Not comparing AHR to G&H, just comparing the logic.

Well, I don’t know about the “bold” handle, but certainly the bolt.

I get what you’re saying, but I have bought 2 gh rifles in the last 12 months, one on Pre64win action the other a commercial Mauser, one with gh side mount optic provision, one not, both had Lyman 48 and barrel sight work, didn’t pay over 5500 for either and they were both 375’s, both 60’s guns. There is a complete gh built on Springfield action with sights, and gh side mount and original scope in beautiful condition at Fieldsport ltd right now for 7500. What made most gh expensive is if it was an early gun and who it was engraved by.

Not trying to devalue the gents ahr conversion at all, those are damn good tools, just think that our mindsets when we see everything else get really expensive in the world with inflation it tends to translate naturally to us thinking our guns are part of that trend. Truly rare stuff will increase in value but run of the mill stuff most of us are into are the same old formula, unless it’s brand new unfired, documented work, only then can you charge original price. Been in the gun business my whole life, I’ve had to explain that in great detail to many people when buying collections.

Did Wayne install the pop-up peep?

If so, was it a NOS BRNO part, or is he making for the CZ 550 actions?

Yes Wayne did it. I believe he has the tooling to make and install them. I suspect he may have gotten the tooling when the CZ USA custom shop stopped doing custom 550’s as they used to offer it as an option.

Let me know if you have decided to sell it for $5500. :) :) :)

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….
