    The big, bad 375... isn't?

I have a 375H&H, like shooting it more than my 300WM. Bought a MRC 404Jeffrey, not nearly as comfortable to shoot as my 375H&H. 375 is a model 70, weights 11+ with scope, mounts etc. 404 is about 9.5, 300 is a Browning stainless stalker[I have given it to a friend] it maybe weighed 8-9 . My age...

Montana Rifle Co AVR - American Vantage Rifle 375 H&H

Had the same issue with my MRC 404 Jeffrey. First and third shot on Cape Buffalo with Norma African PH ammo. Never happened with Hornady ammo which I had practiced with because it was cheaper. PH and assistant PH took bolt apart and cleaned in camp that night and no further problem. Have the...

    Hornady DGX Bonded

7mm Rem Mag for big plains game

Used a 375H&H on everything from Springbok to Cape Buffalo after my first trip which involved a 300WM. Shot of Elephant on a subsequent trip(used a 404). The only gun I would take is a 375H&H. The one caliber which will do everything depending on bullet choice.

.500 or .577 for Next Double?

Have a young friend with a George Gibb 577, I have held it but never shot it. Weighs 13 pounds. He is a solid young man who was a college athlete. First time he shot it he thought he had separated his shoulder. Was going to start hand loading reduced practice loads so it was shootable. As a...

    Federal trophy bonded tip

I used 200 grain trophy bonded bear claws in my 300 WM in South Africa. Performed flawlessly. From 25 yards on an Impala to [this is per my PH] 400 meters on a Cape Kudu. Killed Warthogs, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok and other assorted game. If it wasn't a one shot kill it was my fault...

Bolt action rifle: Failed to fire

Had that problem on a Buffalo hunt using African PH ammo in my MRC 404 Jeffrey, twice, on first shot[worked bolt and first bullet fired, saved second un-fired cartridge and sent it and rifle to MRC to examine, no problem with weapon] and on finishing shot. Never had the problem with Hornady ammo.

Is South Africa still safe to hunt?

You are safer in most parts of South Africa than the south side of Chicago. Its like anywhere, there are good parts and bad parts. Connect with a good PH like I have and you will be completely safe. Safe travels.

Best rifle companies and calibers for dangerous game?

Not having shot anything bigger than a 30-06, I would recommend a 375H&H. I have a M70 and swear by it. Also have a MRC 404 Jeffrey. It is a lot more gun to shoot than my 375H&H.

Bullet Advice For .270 Weatherby Magnum

I shoot a 300 WM on my first hunt to South Africa, used 200 Trophy Bonded Bear Claws with great success. One shot kills on everything including a 400 meter shoot on a Kudu. Would use over a Nosler anytime. Really a great bullet on bigger animals.

I have a New Haven model 70 in 375H&H, probably one of the last. Scrambled to find one in that it is left-handed. Sent it straight to a gunsmith in Western Pennsylvania and had about 700 dollars work done on it. Finished it off with Talley mounts and a Schmidt&Bender 1.5-6X42 Zenith scope...

Last plains game hunt I went on I used my 375H&H with 260 grain Accubonds. Shot Springbok up toEland. Used 30-06 and 300WM on first hunt. I just shoot my 375 better than any rifle I use.
