Hi all, I bought a new Blaser R8 barrel and the front sight rattles faintly in its seat. Is this a normal thing to tell me I need to sight it in and out some tension on it? Thanks!

Mostly to serve as a heavy stable platform for sighting in scopes on given barrels (especially the .375H&H) and to up the recoil tolerance when target shooting with .308/.30-06. Good to hear that the forends are stiff enough.

Hi all, Considering a Blaser R8 Professional Hunter with the polymer stock and 22mm barrel channel. If I use it with a standard 17mm barrel, is the forend still stiff enough for target shooting using a bipod with the free-floated barrel? Thanks

I find that the factory bases and low 1" rings are still on the tall side for a good cheek weld. Can you recommend something lower? Perhaps EAW or some such? Hopefully still QD but I would carry an Allen key or screwdriver if I had to. What's the lowest you can get in any diameter?

IIRC, small apertures increase depth of field and sharpness. This is why pinhole cameras work with no glass.

People talk about recoil headaches, detached retinas, tinnitus, bad shoulders etc. I’m starting to get the feeling that any recoil and muzzle blast past a reasonable solution for the task at hand is incurring more pain for no reason, and probably even counterproductive.

I'm in the Aimpoint camp, then a good aperture rear sight. The Blaser barrels work OK as the rear sight is forward to facilitate scope objectives, which puts it closer to the plane of the front sight and more safely out of presbyopic range. Smart.

If you want a lighter M70 Safari Express .375H&H, you could always put an aluminum floorplate on it and drop it in a McMillan. I think that might save a pound or so. The floorplate would be at least a half pound reduction. A little weight in the barrel never hurt off-hand shooting either.

I found the .375H&H Safari Express a pleasure to shoot. The .375H&H Alaskan is a fair bit more abrupt: to the point where I thought a steel floorplate / trigger guard might mellow it out a bit. Haven't shot the .458 WM yet. Hoping it's not as brutal as the Ruger RSM in .458 Lott/WM I sold...
