    Plains game hunt costs

John gave a great accounting. I did an auction donation hunt with Kuvhima Safaris... was a good deal and let me add some animals. All said and done $25,000 was my approximate cost as well. So for 2 hunters from leaving the US to Animals on your wall I'd say thats a fair estimate. Then work...

    9,3x62 bullet selection

I used 250 Gr. Barnes, now you already said you haven't had mono metal group well. But one shot did my Kudu and same with the Gemsbok. I tried the same bullet type 150Gr. in the 308 and found on the lighter animals they just didn't expand quickly enough with lots of poke throughs.... I just...

    Customs and shipping costs

I did very similar work to what you're thinking.... the kudu on a pedestal is awesome... but adds a lot to the shipping cost if you do the work over there. I want to say shipping/customs to my door in Kansas City was about $4000. Crate was about 6*3*4

What are good units for public land hunting in Wyoming for Antelope?

I was lucky enough to draw Area 32 this year... definitely looking for pointers! I'm going to get a Muddy Mountain area pass, but anyone who can narrow down some good areas would be appreciated as I won't get a scouting trip in prior to season. Anyone else draw WY this year?

2X1 Hunts - How does it work?

Yeah put me in the 2X1 camp. Took my Dad to SA last year in April and he just wanted a few animals, he took 2 and I took 5. This was over 7 days, we really enjoyed the time just hanging out and riding around together. Some times he stalked with us sometimes he'd hang around the Bakkie and...

Last April 9-21 in Limpopo we saw both a puff adder and a black mamba... if I recall correct the mamba was actually on the road to Kruger.

Take your Son hunting. First morning on the stand on his first Whitetail hunt, if we win he'll be the hunter and I the observer ( or second hunter if the Minister of Finance allows).

    Gold Medal Trophies

I was happy with any mature examples of the species I was after.... I ended up with a Gold Medal Kudu and Blesbuck, a silver Blue Wildebeest for my Dad, two silver Impala and a Bronze Gemsbok. But the advice you were given is spot on, if that is your goal let the outfitter know as far in...

Has Technology Made Hunting Too Easy?

The hunt is what you make of it. I took a few long shots (2 misses) on my RSA trip.... When I shot within my abilities I did well. I'm happy shooting a piece of paper at several hundred yards, an animal maybe not. I had the good fortune to have those missed shots and a few missed...

    Form 4457

I didn't have any need for 4457 other than the rifles. That said my Dad brought along a new iPad and camera so I recommended one for those, I don't know if he did or not since he was never asked for them either.

    I Must Be Going Crazy

I didn't see it recommended here, but I actually took the foam out of my Pelican and put the rifles in soft cases (which I was going to take anyway) and then packed clothes, a cleaning rod, and various other things around them. Worked out really well. Good job finding your case!

    Advise needed for Kruger visit

I can't give you directions but we stayed in Kruger and you have to be in the camp by a certain time... for us I wanted to say it was 6PM after that they lock the gate. I was also surprised at how little KM we covered as we constantly wanted to stop and watch an animal or take a side road.

SOUTH AFRICA: Plains Game With Kuvhima Safaris

Day 6 Jean Lu decided we should give the Impala a rest. A farm south of here has a few herd of Gemsbuck and some Blesbuck on their property. We set up along a road crossing and saw a nice herd cross, the first animal out looked good to me, however a much larger bull was with the larger bunch...

SOUTH AFRICA: Plains Game With Kuvhima Safaris

Day 3 started off with a bang! Literally, we took off down a dirt road and turned off into a pasture like area glassing for warthogs, no luck, a few small ones and some sows, however off in the distance a lone Impala was spotted. We headed that way, with the sun rising to our right, the ram...

SOUTH AFRICA: Plains Game With Kuvhima Safaris

Next up was my common Blesbuck. Nice animal, he was out on the plain much like the wildebeest. Not much to say except it was taken with the same 308 and dropped on the spot. Throwing in a couple random pictures of the landscape as well. Now I mentioned the not so good shooting. I also shot...

Took a bit for part II with the site changes and work schedule. So we had some good shots some bad. Early in the day Dad missed a warthog, but after my Kudu he was up for a Blue Wildebeest. He was on a budget and wanted to make the most of the trophy credit that was in our package, but after...

I told a few people I'd write up my experience. Wow. I took my Dad along and we did 7 days hunting in Limpopo and 2 days at Kruger. I'll probably break this into a few posts and try and include a fair number of pictures. The hunt was a SCI chapter donation to the Kansas City chapter, it...

308 with Fusion 150gr for plainsgame

Just back from a PG hunt in SA... I used 150gr Barnes TSX, actually wish I had used something that opened up faster realized on warthogs and impala, like a ballistic tip. Seemed to just poke a hole straight through without the desired expansion. Example, broadside shot on an impala was just a...

    Warthog Taxidermy Pictures

How wide is a tusk? Was wondering if it was practical to have them made into pistol stocks for a ruger blackhawk. Also does anyone know if you get a warthog in SA can you just carry the tusks back with you? Is it practical to have them prepped properly that quickly?

Thank you both. Yes first time. I've got an hour and 20 minutes on the way home through Atlanta... its a bit close from the sound of things, when I booked I had 1:35, and they pushed back arrival by 10 minutes but on a flight of that distance 10 minutes plus or minus isn't much... oh well I'll...

    SCI Auction hunts

I purchased an auction hunt, and feel it was a very good deal. 7 days plus 1500 per hunter trophy fees to apply to any animals I select. That being said I did select a number of animals that I expect to pay extra for. We'll see how it goes leaving the 9th.

    Dreaming-What would you do if?

Well with those funds you could hunt pretty much where you wanted and your pick of trophies. I'd probably spend a month and do Leopard, Lion, Croc, Buff and lots of plains game. I'd use this "dream" as a reason to pick up a nice double rifle I'd think.
