There has been a lot of talk about the end of lion hunting in South Africa. Last I heard, the court hearing was to be held in November. Does anyone have an update on the future of lion hunting in South Africa and where we stand with the courts and hearings?

Hi Mtsewart44

The whole lion thing has been overshadowed by the Rhino poaching.

All I know is it is still open and think it won’t change any time soon like in the next year?:smoking:

Sorry I could not be of any more help.

Best Regards

I just hunted 2 lion there I picked up at the Phasa auction. The day before I arrived, I found out baiting had been closed and is now illegal. This is not well known. Yes, I got 2 and did enjoy the thrill of hunting by tracking. Without baiting, success will drop.

Depending upon the size of the property I wouldn't think baiting is real necessary anyway. Just curious, how big was the property and how many days did it take for you to collect two?

Wow........that is about 185,000 acres. Sounds like a great place. Can you please fill me in on what outfit this is because I didn't know there were any places to hunt in RSA with that much land in one chunk. I would really like to get more information on an operation of that size.

Hello guys,

The court hearing was last week and the court ruled that hunting of lion will be continued as always. I do not have all the spesific details but only know that it's not being stopped by the government. I will find out more and keep you updated.

Best regards,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
