ZIMBABWE: Has Anyone Hunted With DAVE LANGERMAN Safaris?

I never complained about not getting a leopard, I simply said I did not get one. I saw very little leopard sing in 18 days of hunting , so I am simply saying that if someone wants to hunt leopard, I would look elsewhere . If you are goin g to do a hunt , stack the odds in your favor as much as possible and go with someone who has an excellent track record on leopards. They are a tricky animal to hunt and some guys are better at it than others. Just giving my honest opinion .

I said the hunting was great. I'm not trying to bash them, just honestly telling it like it is. I call a spade a spade. There were other things that I felt could have been better but did not publicly mention them, because maybe my expectations might be much different than what others would have. Maybe it was just me, maybe someone else would think nothing of those things, or maybe they would. So I did not make them public. If you want the whole story, PM me with your phone number and I will explain, but I don't want to do it in public.
Thanks for sharing your honest experience and for taking the time to explain your perspective.

I just want to be clear from our side that we never felt you were trying to bash Tsala or the hunt itself. We fully respect that every hunter’s experience is personal, and expectations, especially around something as specific and challenging as leopard , buffalo , Elephant hunting, can differ greatly. We where very upfront about expectations and are also very proud of the effort you did put in to get some exceptional animals like your Elephant , Buffalo and Kudu in a true wilderness area.

That said, we are genuinely proud of our track record over the last 18 years and, just as importantly, of how we conduct our hunts and treat the people who hunt with us. Integrity, effort, and giving a client the very best experience possible are non-negotiable for us.

We are also very aware that you were dealing with some health challenges during that safari, and from our side there was a conscious and sincere effort to go well beyond what would normally be expected to try and make that hunt a truly great experience under the circumstances.

Leopard hunting is indeed a specialised pursuit, and you’re right that some operators have stronger track records in certain areas or conditions than others. We’ve always aimed to be upfront about probabilities, game movement, and realities on the ground, and we appreciate you acknowledging that the hunting itself was good.

Without wanting to hijack the thread or turn this into a public back-and-forth, I would genuinely like to understand which specific comments prompted this discussion, as our intention has never been to diminish your experience or views.

You are, of course, more than welcome to share your opinions here as we have absolutely nothing to hide , start a new discussion, or keep things private if that feels more appropriate. Constructive, respectful feedback is how operations improve, and we are always willing to listen especially after you contacted us to do another hunt with us for 2026 in SA and Moz.

Wishing you all the best for your upcoming hunt, and I hope it turns out to be an exceptional experience.

He admits it was a good hunt but obviously he was left disappointed by something(s), and it wasn’t because of the trophy quality on what he did shoot. What makes a good hunt for him is probably different than what you look for. You can’t make everyone happy.

Personally I’d rather he be open and honest about his opinion so anyone considering booking with the outfitter can reach out to him and see what/why he was left wanting a little more. This will let the perspective hunter make a decision for themselves after hearing from the outfitter and other hunters, including him.
You are correct. I just finished reaching out to Tsala and while I choose not to embarrass this hunter with the specifics I found out his behavior, expectations and poor health in my opinion if I was an outfitter I would not have him again as a client. I will also note although he wants another hunt with Tsala they have chosen to decline…what does that tell you about a client?

To your point, I don’t mind and greatly respect people’s sharing the truth about their hunts both good and bad then lets the chips fall but this hunter was clearly slyly throwing shade on a well respected outfitter who I have been with many times so I know better. As you saw Tsala ended up making a very professional response. Now knowing his behavior, expectations I would love to see how he suddenly reduces them on AH if he even dares mentioning them given how hunters who go to Africa each year would have our jaws drop at things he did. Am I being harsh, you bet I want the truth but the way he has done this can do harm to a great outfitter so I choose to nail it versus euthanize it away

You realize you are drawing a lot more attention than his comments would have received if you didn’t? I don’t really care the specifics. Not all personalities mesh well. That’s all I took it as before your comments. Hunters are looking at this thread for positive reviews on Dave Langerman not information about Tsala.

Thanks for your input, in talking with him on the phone , he seemed like a fun guy to hunt with. That is a huge part of any safari. My last safari in Mozambique with Tsala was a really good hunt, but if you can imagine, it honestly was not much fun at all because of the people. I had such a wonderful time hunting in Botswana the year before with Allen Becker and his crew and was very disappointed with how things went in that regard on my last hunt, so I am looking forward to hunting with such a great and fun guy as Dave.
I have only talked or emailed with him and seen a couple of video interviews with him
But he sounds like a very good operator!
It’s a bitter pill to swallow when the PH’s don’t match your expectations on a expensive hunt , we had a bad experience with Marten Pieters PH’s when he was still in northern Omay consession ( in 2012) , before Dalton & York took over there!

I agree 100%. The OP made a passing comment saying his Mozambique hunt was a great hunt but essentially left a little more to be desired by him and he’s looking for something different this go around. Until @Rare Breed jumped in, and invited the outfitter to weigh in, no one would have given the comment a second thought. The thread was about information on a different outfitter he’s interested in potentially hunting with but is now something a perspective Talsa client can look-up and reach out about. Remember there’s 3 sides to every story; your side, their side, and the truth

You cant do much better than Dave for a hunt whether it is in Zimbabwe or Mozambique he will give everything he has every day. Born in the bush he is not only an excellent PH but a flora and fauna expert, a part of the African hunting experience not to be missed. Brought up in the tradition of Zimbabwe hunting guides and hospitality you will have an experience to remember.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Having not hunted with Dave, I have however spent some time visiting with him at DSC a couple years ago and that conversation has solidified that when I do book my safari in Zim in '31 it will be with Dave. He is one of those PH's that you love being around, very knowledgeable and fun to talk with

I haven't but there was an excellent hunt report by a gentleman here who got 3 non trophy cape buffalo with him and spoke super highly of the experience. Hopefully he will chime in on this thread.
Yeah I did a non-trophy buffalo hunt with Dave, early season last year.

I have just booked another non-trophy buffalo and hyena hunt with Dave for late season this year and we are also discussing the possibility of adding a non-trophy elephant on to the end of this hunt in another area.

Dave is a great guy, fantastic PH and one of the most professinoal individuals you will ever meet.

That interview was Dave, he doesn't play to the camera or try and be more than he is. An excellent PH, person and a pleasure to hunt with.

IF you are at Atlanta or Nashville stop by and talk with him in person. 1069 in Atlanta and 310 in Nashville.

I have reached out to Dave Langerman shopping for opportunities, he was punctual in his responses, very knowledgeable and professional. He is on my list of potential candidates for 2028.

I have also exchanged messages with Rouan @ Tsala, impressive gentleman as well. He is also on my list for 2028.

The comments have not deterred me one bit, I understand the complexities of people. The experience ultimately becomes individually what one makes it to be. Onward.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
